For anyone that missed it......Vols would love to have this guy back in the secondary but I don't know how optimistic they are. He would be a great cover corner but who knows how he will bounce back after rehab.

Stewart has surgery, might join Vols in fall

Cornerback Antwan Stewart came out of knee surgery in good shape and could be back on the football field for Tennessee before the 2004 season ends.

"Everything went smoothly and we're hopeful for a late-season return,'' head athletic trainer Keith Clements said Tuesday.

Stewart, who was projected as a starter at right cornerback, suffered a torn ligament during spring practice April 3. Surgery was performed Thursday by Drs. Bill Youmans and Greg Mathien.

Stewart, who will be a sophomore, redshirted in 2002, so any action in 2004, even late in the season, would be desirable.
