COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Coach Lou Holtz said he would be more involved in South Carolina's offense this season, but nobody expected him to break a leg doing it.
Holtz suffered a hairline fracture to his lower leg Saturday while watching the offense practice goal line situations, the university announced Monday.
Holtz was crouched down parallel to his backs when running back Cory Boyd inadvertently knocked him over.
The 67-year-old coach jumped right back up and continued practice, but found out later he had suffered the hairline fracture to his left fibula - one of the bones in the lower leg.
The bone doesn't bear weight, so Holtz and his sore leg were back on the practice field Sunday afternoon.
Holtz told his team he came back to "make sure Cory Boyd was OK," according to a news release from the school.
