just wondering if you guys had any info on rankings right now, and where our teams are at in regards to recruiting....

I haven't heard anything about recruiting yet. This will change the closer we get to spring.

Alabama and LSU are leading the recuiting classes so far. AMOST ALL of the top Alabama (from Alabama) recruits have commited to the University of Alabama. The only exception is Markus Manson, who commited to Florida, but seems to have happy feet and has scheduled re-visits to several schools including UA (in his hometown and mine)... I interviewed Cody Davis and Manson last fall and Markus would not let us in on who he would choose at that time.

Wow. Thats great for Bama.

Things have been kinda quiet around UT lately. With the exception of Erik Ainge, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound QB who threw for 3000 yards last year. He commited verbably, but things could change before he signs on Feb. 4.

Our recruiting has been pretty crappy this year, I don't blame the recruits for not coming, we don't have anyone coming in that's good...

Per Rivals as of today. ( I know that Rivals is just one service).

National Rank and number of commitments.

#2 LSU (21)
#7 UGA (18)
#11 UF (11)
#14 Bama (24)
#21 UT (14)
#32 Ark (22)
#35 UK (26)
#43 Aub (12)
#48 USC (16)
#56 UM (18)
#65 Vandy (13)
#81 MSU (10)

Everyone says to look for UF, UT, and Auburn to move up on signing day due to the few commitments. But what's going on at MSU?

RW13
01-22-2004, 10:08 AM
any chance of SC moving up?

joe
01-22-2004, 01:03 PM
yea like anyone they have a shot to move up but these rankings are all most useless untill signing day because as most know anthing can and usually does happen in the recruiting game. USC is still in on some very good prospects such as DT Marque Hall and OL Leon Hart. I think they have a good chance to sign Hall and while Hart claims Auburn and OSU as his leaders he has a visit scheduled to USC and one thing that I have learned is to never count out the home team

yeah, can anyone post them and also, do they update them if we sign a guy or two next week or in the coming weeks?

Anybody got a final ranking of the SEC recruiting classes. Last I saw my Cats were @ 35, but I suspect they dropped off some....

ssand
05-07-2004, 09:31 PM
Here you go, per Rivals. The rankings are national.

#2 LSU
#6 UGA
#7 UF
#11 UT
#15 Bama
#21 Auburn
#22 UPig
#30 Ole Miss
#35 USC
#45 UK
#62 MSU
#66 Vandy

Just one source. I'll have to look further if you would like another! Welcome to the board!

RW13
05-09-2004, 08:13 AM
I just hope the cats have an answer for the loss of J-LO and Abney, I know boyd gave us fits but I don't know if he is the type of QB to have for a whole 4 quarters....

The Architect
05-14-2004, 08:00 AM
Sorry I didn't get back to you for a while RW....

I'm kinda glad J-Lo and Abney are gone. I loved 'em, but they were both kinda freaks, physically. J-Lo's too big and Abney's too little. Jared made bad decisions at critical moments, and Abney wasn't the kind of guy who could take over a game (you can only run so many kicks back). Brooks is slowly building up our players, and getting more prototypical type players at every position- granted they're not the top recruits, but they're closer to the proven molds.

I wish Boyd had not played baseball this spring (closer for our DISMAL team). I think it will adversely affect his football throwing motion. He really needs to improve his accuracy and touch. The bright side to Boyd is he's really the kind of quarterback suited to Hudson's attack. He should have a much better grasp of the offense this year.

Keenan Burton will be a name that folks will hear alot come this fall. I think he will ease the loss of Abney. He's maybe not quite as fast, but he has a great build and good hands, and will be able to ward of defenders in jump ball situations (that's where Abney was at a big disadvantage- if he didn't have space because of his speed, his lack of size kept him from making more plays).

I'm so tired of losing to the chickens, too....just for the record ;)

Of course, I could say that about nearly every SEC team, except for MSU-- but I'm sure that'll change too :o

Well how about this year's rankings so far? I know it's very very early but I was curious, we should try to keep this thread going every year for recruiting purposes...

DeL,

I have heard great things about Mike Davis and I wish we could land him, but I am not counting on it. Right now, we have 23 committed and we will probably sign 28-29 players. Basically, anyone who doesn't commit by the first week in January will be left out in the cold from a pure numbers standpoint.

Collegefootballnews.com posted its fresman all-america team. Interestingly, of the 22 on the first team offense and Defense, 12 were ranked as 3 stars or less by recruiting services. SC's freshman DB made it and he was a 2 star. Wallace Gilberry from Bama made it and he was not ranked at all coming out of high school. It just shows that rankings can't measure the heart/work ethic of a player.

Hey Del, take a wild guess, your gut feeling, how well do you think we'll fare with these guys; how do you think our ranking MAY end up?

If we got 60% of the list of visits, I say low teens. One thing is for sure, I am thinking Top-25 area overall.

LOL granted we need Croyle back but we also need everyone healthy too man. We have a good football team this year and gettin Brodie and CAstille and the others back plus new recruits and gettin experience for our freshmen this year will only improve the Tide. Look for the Tide to make alot of noise next year and dont be surprise to see them in Atlanta playin for the SEC championship.

Hardie
12-23-2004, 12:28 PM
We are losing our punter , 3 from the offensive line , and I believe 3 - 4 on the defense most notable is Peprah, Andrews, and Wortham. The big question mark is going to be the offensive line but I think we have played the backups in there enough doing patch work that we should mesh pretty quickly and be pretty good up front. Defense is pretty much in tact except for those 3 I mentioned previously. Croyles is rehabbin nicely last Ive heard and should be 100% or close to by spring practice.

I've seen Beecher in person. This kid is the real deal. I think he really has a shot at starting. With all of the big QB prospects in NC, he slipped under the radar. He's smart too. He scored 1300 or something like that on his SAT.

On Dec.20th the OLE MISS REBELS were ranked 72nd in the nation, today they are ranked 32nd I believe. This is awsome considering coach Orgeron has only had 1 month on the job. If we could close out with Pegues,Sanford and Jerry from South Panola and maybe steal a couple more like Al Jones from(lsu committ), Korte(lsu committ) and Trahan(Auburn committ), then the UM REBELS will have an outstanding class considering we went through a coaching change in December.
