Default Maybe McElroy should not start against LSU
This is just a huge Bama Fan's opinion, so take it as is....

McElroy has struggled the past three games. He has not adapted to the SEC defense speed, as shown against Ole Miss, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Here is my suggestion for the next two week's practice before the LSU game. I think Saban needs to practice both McElroy and another quarterback (probably Star Jackson, but maybe Darrah) with an equal number of reps with the first string offense. See which quarterback "clicks" better with his offense.

This will probably not be a popular decision as McElroy earned the starting spot and has helped lead us to an 8-0 start. However, the offense is not flowing with him at quarterback over the last 3 games; it's not working.

What do you think Bama Fans? Would benching McElroy and starting someone else against LSU permanently hurt McElroy's confidence or would it motivate him?

nobody wants my opinion, but that's crazy. switching QBs on an undefeated team is nuts.

Worst. Idea. Ever.

Our other quarterbacks are nothing to talk about for real.....

G-Mac is the man in my book, should have been even before JPW graduated.

It would be the greatest coaching blunder of all time to do something so moronic.

When you are 8-0 and in the climax of an SEC schedule and you're next opponent is a Top 10 team.....you just don't do that.
"....barely undefeated"

A- McElroy's problems started with Kentucky despite everyone overlooking that for some reason. B- this is what happens when a qb faces some of the toughest pass defenses in the country C-if you bench McElroy, you lose.

And put who in there to replace him? Jackson? Darrah? lol they are levels and levels below Mac

We need to stick to the wild cat. Every time ingram lines up in that position it's a 5+ yard alabama gain. Considering how much Cody did for us last week, Saban should let him get in the wildcat and run a few times like fridge perry lol Imagine how insane the crowd would go

Actually, McElroy wasn't doing too badly. Our receivers dropped a lot of balls that hit them right in the hands. McElroy's favorite target, Colin Peek, was held out of the game and Julio Jones was getting mugged all night. Pass protection could use a little improvement and our receivers need to get their heads in the game. We didn't take but one shot down the field the whole game (that I can remember) and these have tendencies to be some of Greg's better passes. Our offense is very inconsistent (and this is the most charitable description I can come up with right now) but Greg can't shoulder all the blame.

That's insane. GMac didn't hasn't had good performances the last few weeks, but our receivers haven't exactly been helping him out with all the drops. Starting Star for the first time against LSU is a terrible idea.

Greg may not be living up to his own expectations. I'm sure he is harder on himself than we could ever be. I think as far as who the QB is, I will leave that up to our coaches. I think they have a better idea than any of us about who is capable of handling the team. I think Greg will get out of this slump.

I honestly just think McElwain needs to open the reigns a little bit on the offense.....Let G mac go deep a few times....he has said before that those are the passes he feels the most comfortable throwing....gotta pass to keep the D honest to blow open the run game....Saban is not happy with our non risk taking offense this game.....you could tell that....I believe he addresses that this week....We didn't get to 8-0 ....not taking chances....we've got to go deep.....let G mac do his thing....better pass protection would help....

I'm not much of a Bama fan.......ok, I'm not a Bama fan at all, but I think your ole buddy tbmoore has a great idea here. I mean, what better game to experiment with a new qb and just see how it goes.

I'm all for it! Just saying.

The problem is not McElroy it's the OL. They are excellent at run blocking and opening holes for our backs, but in pass protection they are lacking. These defenses know this and they're exploiting it. It doesn't help that our last 3 opponents have each been progressively the best defenses Bama has faced all season. I thought McElroy played well in the UT game. He got the ball to Julio a lot, but UT is a tough D and hard to move the ball against no matter how good your team is. McElroy isn't slumping really. Saban and the coaches aren't letting him take shots down the field. They are playing conservative football to prevent making mistakes. We'll probably do the same against LSU. One thing that annoyed me in this last game were the plays right there at the goal line to get Julio a TD. Ingram is the heart and soul of this team right now. He carried the ball down to that position. That close, you have to give him a shot to get it in there. We have to stop these stupid fade routes at the goal line. Our back field is too good for that crap.

As to Mac, I expect him to have a much better game at LSU. The coaches know the problems, but the main thing is we've faced 3 tough defenses right behind each other in the meat of the schedule. Good defenses are good for a reason. They can shut down a decent pass game. No reason to bench McElroy at all. He's still making good decisions and managing the game well when he can't make the throws.

In my opinion, you should bench McElroy, Arenas, Ingram, and McClain against State to get your 4th stringers some experience. Please?
