Future Alabama commit Brian Vogler was a major contributor in Brookstone's (Columbus, Ga.) 31-17 victory over Landmark Christian (Fairburn, Ga.) Friday night. The touted tight end caught three balls for 102 yards (34 average) and two touchdowns, according to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.

Under Armour All-American quarterback Phillip Sims completed 13 of 20 attempts (65-percent) for 266 yards and one touchdown in Oscar Smith's (Chesapeake, Va.) 27-13 victory over Venice, Fla. on ESPNU. It was the 22nd consecutive win for Oscar Smith.
He told the Virginian-Pilot after the contest, "A lot of players had doubt coming into this game, but we felt like we had a lot to prove. Players came out tonight and really turned it around and made some big-time plays. It just shows what a team can do together, not as individuals."

GAINESVILLE -– Expectations were running high on Bobby Gruhn Field Friday, as the No. 2 ranked Gainesville Red Elephants kicked off their 2009 campaign.
Led by quarterback Blake Sims, the Elephants didn't do much to disappoint, cruising to a 34-0 win over the Chestatee War Eagles.
Sims began the scoring for Gainesville, just seconds into the first quarter, with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tyson Smith, giving the Red Elephants a 7-0 leadn that they never relinquished.
The high-octane Gainesville offense racked up 524 yards. Sims accounted for 290 of those yards, hitting 13 of 24 passes for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns and adding 57 more yards rushing on 7 carries. Yet the Red Elephants did hurt themselves with numerous penalties, and turnovers gave Gainesville plenty to work on in practice this week.
Corey Grant

The Alabama commitment rushed for 151 yards on 22 carries and three touchdowns. He also played some quarterback, taking direct snaps in Opelika’s version of the Wildcat formation — out of which two of his touchdowns were scored.
Taking over with just over 10 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Northern star Keenan Allen stunned the Dudley crowd with back-to-back incredible plays.
Taking over at quarterback, Allen rushed for 21 yards on 3rd-and-16. The very next play Allen combined with Maurice Harris on a 49-yard touchdown pass and the Nighthawks (2-1) took the lead on the extra point.
"Our QB (Rocco Scarfone) has been sick all week and he couldn't go at the very end," Northern coach Johnny Roscoe said. "We put Keenan back there and he makes plays wherever he goes. If there's a better one in America, I haven't seen him."
Quote:
Craig Sanders had 178 yards rushing on offense and six tackles on defense. He stayed home Saturday to watch the Tide play the Hokies.
“The game was fantastic,” Sanders said. “I really enjoyed it all the way to the end. I felt like we performed great.”

Corey Grant, Scout.com four-star running back from Opelika High School, helped secure an easy 49-6 win over Russell County. He rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns.
Blake
Quote:
The one mistake came on the Red Elephants’ opening drive, as quarterback Blake Sims fumbled while scrambling on the first possession of the night.
The senior quarterback more than made up for that mistake, finishing the game 15-of-25 passing for 187 yards and scoring three rushing touchdowns.
"I just put that fumble behind me and kept playing," Sims said. "The only thing I thought about was holding it tight."
That was evident on Sims’ final touchdown run.
After telling Gainesville coach Bruce Miller to give him the ball and promising to score, Sims took the snap, ran right, spun around an oncoming tackler then juked his way to a 34-yard touchdown run.
"Everybody was doing their thing and I wanted to have a turn," Sims said. "But without the line and without everyone blocking, I wouldn’t have scored."

Valley — 13: (1-1), beat Rehobeth, 29-6, on Friday. Timvontae Walker scored twice — once on an 83-yard kickoff return and once on a 41-yard run — in Mike McCombs’ first win as the Rams’ head coach. Ty Still found Enrique Florence for a 54-yard score, and D’Armontae Garrett had a 17-yard fumble return for a touchdown to make Valley 1-0 in the region. Last Week: No. 6. No. 1-ranked Vigor extended its winning streak to 17 games by defeating Escambia County 31-16 in the 5A Region 1 opener at Prichard Stadium Friday night.
The Wolves (2-0, 1-0) led 12-8 at halftime, then scored two quick touchdowns to take control.
Vigor coach Kerry Stevenson said he was impressed with Escambia County.
"They played better than what we saw on film," Stevenson said. "That let our kids know when you're ranked No. 1, somebody is going to give it their best and try to knock you off every Friday night. That's just the nature of the beast."
Vigor's Deangelo Miller ran 12 times for 102 yards, scoring on runs of 4 and 2 yards. Corey Gable added a 7-yard touchdown run, and Jackie Williams had a 7-yard touchdown run.
Junior wide receiver Marvin Shinn, an Alabama commitment, also caught a 45-yard touchdown for Vigor.
Escambia County's Rico Stallworth threw two touchdown passes, and Escambia County also got a safety when Vigor snapped a punt over the punter's head and out of the end zone in the first half.

Russellville's Brent Calloway, a junior running back who has already committed to Alabama, scored three touchdowns to lead a 42-6 Golden Tigers' victory.
Calloway, a 6-foot-2 and 210-pounder who also plays linebacker, finished with 73 yards on only eight carries for Russellville (2-0, 1-0 Region 8).
Still, the Lee players said their pride was restored somewhat after being blanked 34-0 by Class 2A Red Bay last week.
J.C. Coleman rushed for two touchdowns as the visiting Tigers (2-0) rolled in their Southeastern District opener.
Heath Saunders put the Braves (0-2) up 3-0 with an early 21-yard field goal. Oscar Smith then reeled off 42 consecutive points, beginning with Jaston George’s 87-yard scoring return on the ensuing kickoff.
Coleman scored on runs of 6 and 10 yards, and Raysean Richardson added a 47-yard interception return for a touchdown during the Tigers’ spree. Tigers quarterback Phillip Sims had a relatively quiet night, throwing for 183 yards and a score.TE]
Russellville had too much offense and too much defense for the Butler Rebels to overcome Friday night.
The Golden Tigers used solid rushing, timely passing and a stingy defense to destroy Butler 56-0.
Russellville (3-0, 2-0), scored five of the first six times it had the ball, rolling to a 35-0 halftime lead.
The Golden Bears, led by the tandem rushing of Brent Calloway and Jyran Darby ,racked up 519 yards of total offense. Calloway finished with 97 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries, while Darby scored once and had 92 yards on nine carries.
Coach Doug Goodwin said his team started out slow, turning the ball over twice and roughing the punter in the first quarter, but after that they settled down and played what he described as an efficient game.
Goodwin said he was very pleased with the defense, which limited Butler to only four first downs and 71 yards of total offense.
"They played solid all night," Goodwin said. "Overall, I'm pleased with the effort."
Calloway got the scoring started with a 20-yard run in the first quarter. Jose Betancourt kicked the first of six extra points and Casey Bolton kicked two more.
Calloway and quarterback Joey Howe put the game away in the second quarter.
Calloway scored on a three-yard run and then caught a 26-yard pass from Howe for another score.
Howe, who finished with 143 yards passing, connecting on seven of 15 passes, hit Byron Graham for a 27 yard score and then found PJ Lindsey open for 20 yards and another touchdown.
Jake Ward and Xaier Kirkman scored on runs of eight and one yards in the third quarter, before Darby ended the scoring with a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter.
ust when it looked like Northern Guilford had run out of options, in came Keenan Allen to the rescue.
With the Nighthawks clinging to a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, Allen came in to punt on fourth down. But it was a fake, and Allen's pass hit Maurice Harris for a 12-yard gain. Two plays later, Allen threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Downing that helped Northern Guilford secure a 42-27 win over Northwest Guilford on Friday night.
“I just had to suck it up and step up for my team,” said Allen, who finished with 64 yards passing and a touchdown, 57 yards rushing and three touchdowns and 80 yards receiving and another score. “We wanted this game real bad. We just had to follow through with it.”
Brian Vogler pulled in an impressive 19yd jumpball TD in Brookstone's loss to Greensville.
Harrison Jones hauled in a 14 yd TD in his team's 31-7 victory
CJ Mosley was named the defensive back of the week by The Crichton Optimist Club

Watch for Top Jobs coming to this space soon.
Quarterback Jamal Golden kept his mouth closed and let his performance do the talking.
Golden dazzled under center in leading Wetumpka to its first win of the season and keeping arch-rival Stanhope Elmore winless this campaign with Fri*day's 40-27 victory in front of a packed crowd at home.
The win also marked the fourth consecutive meeting in which the Indians (1-1, 1-0 Class 6A, Region 4) were able to defeat their neighbors from nearby Millbrook. Wetumpka posted an impressive 19-0 victory on the road last season.
"This felt like a state champi*onship game," WHS senior line*backer JaMichael Taylor said about the emotional win. "It's a big-time rivalry. A lot of folks were doubting us, and we were suppose to be the underdog, but we came out on our field and showed that hard work does pay off."
Golden was all over the field, throwing for 162 yards and a touchdown. However, the junior signal-caller's biggest contribu*tion came via the running game, as he rushed for 148 yards and two scores.
"I refused to lose," he said. "(Stanhope) was talking all that junk, and we didn't say any*thing. They were talking, talk*ing, talking all in the newspaper and everything. We didn't say anything; we just let our actions speak. I refused to lose."
WHS Coach Chad Anderson agreed that his signal-caller was impressive.
"Jamal was just in a different gear tonight, a different mode," Anderson said. "He just took over. That's what great athletes do -- he's just special."
Tied at 27-27 entering the fi*nal quarter, Golden scooped up a fumble by teammate Marquiz "Rock" Buycks and scampered 32 yards to the 2-yard line before Buycks completed the drive with a burst up the middle with 8:22 remaining.
The Mustangs (0-2, 0-1) had an opportunity to answer back when quarterback Arsenio Fa*vor hit DeMario Thomas for a 70-yard TD at the 6:47 mark. But the play was negated due to an offensive pass interference call on Thomas, who slightly pushed the defender prior to the catch.
After forcing SEHS to punt, Wetumpka added to its lead on Golden's 3-yard TD ran up the middle with 2:58 remaining. Buycks' 2-yard gain on fourth-and-inches and a facemask pen*alty helped set up the game's fi*nal score.
"We didn't think about win*ning four straight against them," Golden said. "They were preparing all week to beat us, but it was just another game to us. We're just trying to get bet*ter, plus it's a region game."
Junior running back Pat Mil*liner's 2-yard touchdown run with 8:26 left the second quarter put Stanhope Elmore ahead, 21-8, before its rival put up 19 un*answered points prior to half*time.
Buycks scored on an 8-yard rush, Lajarvis Williams re*turned a 72-yard interception and Golden capped the uprising with jaw-dropping scamper through the defense to forge a 27-21 advantage at intermission.
"We got a spark in that quar*ter," said Williams, a senior de*fensive back. "We were down and we had to get that momen*tum back. The offense got to clicking, the defense got to click*ing, everybody got clicking."
Anderson liked the way his team kept fighting back.
"Our kids battled back," An*derson said. "We always talk about adversity, but our kids kept plugging away at it. We never let go. They just fought and fought through cramps, bumps and bruises to win the game."
Williams' interception re*turn for a score marked the sec*ond straight outing that We*tumpka's defense has been able to provide points off turnovers. Senior Zante Carlis returned a pick for a touchdown in a sea*son-opening setback to Demopo*lis.
Despite harboring one of the most talented team in the coun*ty, Stanhope Elmore is off to one of its worst starts under the watchful eye of head coach Jeff Foshee, who was not available for comment following the loss.
Carlis's 5-yard score and Golden's two-point conversion put WHS on the board first in the opening quarter. But on the ensuing kickoff Alabama re*cruit Demarcus Milliner sliced his way 88 yards down the field for the score with 8:36 to go.
The Mustangs were plagued by mental mistakes throughout the entire contest, including three interceptions from Favor.
"Mistakes, we had too many mistakes," said Demarcus Milli*ner, whose 20-yard touchdown run tied the game at 27 in the third quarter. "That's what hap*pened this week and last week. We've got to pick it up now."
Pat Milliner racked up 97 yards and a score on 10 at*tempts, and Rodney Young also found the end zone for Stanhope Elmore, which will try to get on track at home when Jeff Davis comes calling this week.

Carroll-Ozark at Valley
Valley took control from the start against Rehobeth last week.
Literally.
Senior Timvontae Walker took the opening kickoff back 83 yards for a score and sent coach Mike McCombs well on his way to his first win with the Rams.
“That opening kickoff really set the tone,” McCombs said. “It’s a lot easier to call when you’ve got a little bit of a lead.”
Valley’s 29-6 win over Rehobeth was the perfect bounceback from a season-opening loss to a demonstrably stingy Auburn team, in which the Rams couldn’t get much of anything going offensively.
Valley mixed it up against the Rebels on Friday, complementing its three-headed monster in the backfield with big gainers in the passing game, such as a 54-yard touchdown from Ty Still to Enrique Florence.
“We’re doing a lot more offensively,” McCombs said. “If we want to get to the next level, that’s what we need to do.”
And mixing in the pass is something the Rams are going to need to do in their home opener Friday against Carroll-Ozark, which McCombs said has some monsters on the line plugging those running holes.
“This bunch we’re about to play, they’re scary,” he said. “They definitely pass the look test.”
The University of Alabama continues to roll up big yardage on the offensive side of the ball. Several of the Tide's future stars are doing well on the high school gridiron as well.
Corey Grant, Scout.com four-star running back from Opelika High School, helped his team past Enterprise 27-24 in overtime. Grant had 26 carries for 206 yards and two touchdowns in the vistory. Opelika will face Vigor at home this week.
Blake Sims, Scout.com four-star safety from Gainesville High School in Ga., continues to put up impressive numbers this season. He accounted for 290 total yards with four passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in a 55-12 win over North Hall.
Phillip Sims, Scout.com five-star quarterback from Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., was 17-of-27 for 219 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in a 34-0 win over King’s Fort.
Keiwone Malone, Scout.com three-star wide receiver from Mitchell Road High School in Memphis, Tenn., caught two touchdown passes but lost to Melrose 26-25.
Ronald Carswell, Scout.com four-star wide receiver from Westside High School in Macon, Ga., had three receptions including a 26-yard touchdown in a 27-7 win over Jones County.
Expect several of Alabama's commitments to attend the big SEC match-up this weekend as the Tide welcomes Arkansas to Tuscaloosa.

Alabama-bound quarterback Phillip Sims had his best outing of the season – completing 14 of 18 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns. In the first quarter, he threw scoring strikes of 16 and 46 yards to Quinta Funderburk and a 26-yarder to J.C. Coleman.
“I thought we came out a lot more focused,” Sims said. “A lot of guys were really disappointed by last week.”
Sims hit Funderburk six times for 113 yards and connected with Charlie Ricks five times for 77 yards that included a 26-yard touchdown to put the Tigers (5-0, 4-0 Southeastern District) up 49-3 late in the second quarter.
“I think the kids heard all week that they are not the old Oscar Smith and that anybody can beat us,” Tigers coach Richard Morgan said. “We all got tired of hearing it.
“So we came out and executed like we’re supposed to execute. We came out and played Oscar Smith football. A lot of people motivated us with the things they were saying about us.”
Blake Sims
Quote:
While the defense held the fort for the first half, the offense finally got things going in the third quarter when Blake Sims connected with Tai-ler Jones for a 6-yard touchdown. That was the second Sims-to-Jones touchdown of the game; the two connected for a 25-yard pass with 8:37 left in the second quarter to put Gainesville on the scoreboard.
It was the first time Gainesville had been held scoreless in the first quarter all season.
"West Forsyth is a great team," Sanabria said. "Our offense struggled early, but I knew they would make up for it in the second half."
Sims, who rushed for 115 yards, took things in his own hands for Gainesville’s third touchdown, taking a quarterback draw 71 yards to the end zone. Fourteen seconds later, Sanabria scored on the fumble recovery.
"I just saw the ball and ran," Sanabria said.
That was Gainesville’s game plan all night. The team rushed for 327 yards, including 119 from Teryan Rucker and 53 from Devon Pierce, who scored a touchdown in his first game back from a hamstring injury.
Pierce got a loud ovation from the City Park crowd and was a welcomed sight for Miller.
"We’re finally getting everyone healthy," he said.
Not only are the Red Elephants healthy, but they finally passed a test, as well.
"We definitely needed a good test," Sanabria said. "This was a great test for our goal of winning a state title."

The Wolves wanted to atone for a loss to Opelika last week and were playing for Quinterrious Eatmon, a Vigor lineman who was hospitalized earlier in the day due to heart-related problems.
The Wolves did both convincingly, getting 113 all-purpose yards from Marvin Shinn to defeat the Saints 33-7.
Shinn, who played only one down in the second half, threw an 87-yard touchdown pass, had a 7-yard touchdown run and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass to help Vigor improve to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in region play. The Wolves wound up with 309 passing yards for the night and 455 yards of total offense.
Keenan Allen from last week
Quote:
Last week’s game may be the catalyst that puts him at the top of the prep prospect rankings at the end of the day.
Allen was lethal from the air, throwing two touchdown passes. He changed positions to wide receiver making a big touchdown catch to go with the two touchdown passes. He then ran for a touchdown, bringing his total up to four.
Allen was not done yet, as he intercepted a pass and took it the distance for the touchdown, bringing his total to five.
