Default Rumor: Sidell Corley trying to transfer to Bama
Again, its just a rumor. But supposedly he's trying to transfer here to be closer to some family after his mother's tragic death earlier this year. And due to the circumstances trying to get a hardship exception.

I have my doubts about all of this due to how close the season is, but definitely something to look at

Quick run down:

Elite talent out of HS from Mobile

Went to LSU and redshirted

Expected by most to crack into rotation in this, his sophomore year and could play either DE or DT

Mother was murdered by estranged husband in May Double homicide in Mobile | Fox10tv.com

Rumored to be looking to play and be closer to family after tragedy, (assuming he has family near central Alabama).

Well...it would be hard on the numbers, but I figure if he is talented Saban wouldn't turn him away.....thats horrible I feel for him....I can't blame him for wanting to come back closer....thats gotta be hard on you to go through states away.....I hope whatever decision he comes to is the best for him...

Probably not this year, but like I said, he's a good talent (former Rivals 100) and has great size and athletic. He could crack in in 2010

To be closer to home? How far is Baton Rouge from Mobile, compared to Tuscaloosa?
Shorty, Shorty, he’s our man. George Wallace belongs in the garbage can.

It's roughly a 4 mile difference or so. Not enough to warrant a complete school transfer I would think.

Former McGill-Toolen standout Sidell Corley was released from LSU's football program Wednesday and will now look into an immediate transfer to Alabama or Auburn, his father told the Press-Register.

Corley Sr. said his son plans to apply for a hardship waiver from the NCAA to allow him to play this year, and would be willing to pay his own way if it would help him catch on with a program.

Press-Register, G.M. Andrews
Former McGill-Toolen star Slidell Corley grabs Murphy quarterback Ryan Ramsey in the first quarter at Ladd-Peebles Stadium Friday, October 27, 2006.

"We're going to try to get in somebody's camp here in the next couple days," Corley Sr. said.

A 6-foot-4, 273-pound sophomore defensive lineman, Corley's departure from the Tigers was tied to a harrowing offseason that included the death of his mother, Janet Penn, who was shot to death in May at her home in Mobile.

Barely a week later, the youngster's uncle drowned, Corley Sr. said.

"Football was the least problem he had," Corley Sr. said. "We were more worried about getting his head together. He wanted to be home. He wanted to be able to be around his sister. And he wanted to be around his friends who know what's going on."

Corley redshirted at LSU in 2007 and played sparingly in two games last season. Corley Sr. credited LSU coach Les Miles as "an honorable man" who "stepped up to the plate and thought about my kid's welfare."

(For a complete report, see Thursday's Press-Register).

LSU's Sidell Corley looks into Alabama, Auburn: "I just felt like coming home"

Updating a developing story from the Press-Register that could hold significance for fans of Alabama and Auburn ...

There has been a growing buzz today about the future of LSU sophomore defensive lineman Sidell Corley, a former McGill-Toolen standout who has opted to leave the Tigers. He was released today from his scholarship by LSU officials.

Corley and his father told the Press-Register soon after that his next step would be to an "in-state" program like Alabama, Auburn or perhaps Troy.

Sidell Corley Sr. said his son plans to apply for a hardship waiver from the NCAA to allow him to play this year, and would be willing to pay his own way if it would help him catch on with a program as early as "the next couple days."

Alabama would seem a preferable destination for him, if such a move is possible given the Crimson Tide's recent scholarship crunch. Soon after his arrival in Jan. 2007, Alabama coach Nick Saban tried unsuccessfully to recruit Corley.

Additionally, Corley's close friend and high school teammate Phelon Jones, a defensive back, transferred from LSU to Alabama earlier this year. Jones must sit out the 2009 season with the Crimson Tide, but was included on Alabama's 105-man roster released today.

A 6-foot-4, 273-pound sophomore defensive lineman, Corley's departure from the Tigers was tied to a nightmarish offseason that included the death of his mother, Janet Penn, who was shot to death in May at her home in Mobile.

Barely a week later, the youngster's uncle drowned, his father said.

"It really didn't have anything to do with football," Corley Jr. said. "It's just me personally. The last three or four months have been kind of hard on me because of my mom and the things that have been going on in my life. I just felt like coming home and being close to my family. At school I was kind of lost, and I felt alone."

Corley was one of the state's top recruits during the 2006 season and was a part of the U.S. Army All-American Game.

His father said that there were no hard feelings with LSU.

"The school did everything in the world to get him ready," Corley Sr. said. "He just felt like he needed to be home."

Hopefully he'll give Auburn a look, we're a little too stacked at DE.
