Well, this Izzo thing certainly has some other teams stirred up. He must be better than I thought!

Donovan at Florida is the only current coach in the SEC who's won the national championship in men's basketball. Izzo would be the second. Mich. State won a NC a few years back under Izzo.

If Izzo had said thanks but no thanks then Mal wouldn't draw up a contract.

If he didn't want to leave to coach at Kentucky, where basketball is a priority (and our fanbase knows who the hell he is) why on Earth would he want to go to Bama? I mean seriously, this is absolutely laughable. It makes absolutely ZERO sense. But oh wait. Saban and Izzo are buddies....so it's COMPLETELY plausible

If Mal somehow pulled this off then he would seal his fate as one of if not the greatest UA AD's of all time.

I live in Michigan. My brother went to Michigan State. I spent many a weekend at State throughout my junior & senior years of HS and many since for both football and basketball. I still keep in contact with many a Spartan alum.

Way I see it, $20mill over 8 years is a helluva lot of money and yes, he'd be reunited with his good friend Nick Saban but having somewhat followed State basketball since the days before everyone knew Jud Heathcoate was on his way out, I don't see Izzo to Bama happening - I really don't. Izzo has worked most of his professional life at State - I think this is like his 18th year working there in one capacity or another. He has built the recruiting pipelines that cannot be trumped & let's face it, the Big Ten isn't the most competitive conference in hoops since Indiana and Michigan's programs have imploded. UM is kind of on their way back up but they're still wildly inconsistent and still very much MSU's bithc. All my MSU peeps tell me he and Dantonio hit it off from day 1 just as he did with John L Smith before him....he's still great friends with Mariucci for cryin' out loud...so I don't put a whole lot of stock in his personal loyalty to Saban at all.

Hate to be a wet blanket on this but I'd be floored if this happened & even if it does, Izzo won't even start thinking about it until after the Spartans lose in the tournament so any rumors you hear will be pure speculation and guessing.

$20mill & 8 years though......

If he left, it would have to be strictly about $. It makes absolutely no sense any other way. I mean who the hell would want to work at Bama over State anyway? We're talking basketball and this makes no sense on every level.
