Use quarters defense to stop the short and deep pass. If he runs its most likely to the side with the most open field. Therefore you should make your D-line crash towards the open field. Making the D-line rush out usually messes up blocks too, crashing in on short and inches with blitzing LB's will be loss of yardage every time. Quarters is an effective defense to stop all three phases, but not if the opponent were to get in goal line offense and pound it.

Don't worry, a consistant defense on NCAA is about impossible. I'll also leave you with one key word...always send one LB or CB blitzing. Have to put the pressure on them because just like in real life...you give the QB too much time and he'll burn ya. Bad thing is that every opponent will burn you in they have an IQ of 20 to see the open man. Force them to make quick decisions, always.
