I would say that Arkansas red is simply red. While looking around I discovered the Razorbacks used to be called the Cardinals. Back in 1910 the head coach made a comment that the team played "like a wild band of razorback hogs" in a victory over LSU. The students liked it so much they voted to change the mascot. Very similar story to Bama's "Crimson Tide" nickname. I guess the red is a carry over from the Cardinals nickname.  |
