I disagree. It was a different situation last year. USC claimed it b/c they were #1 in both of the polls, and were left out of the NC game. Auburn was #3 in both polls, therefore they have nothing to "officially" claim.

People can argue left and right that Auburn should have been in the NC game, and I agree with you. I think they would have made it a MUCH better game that Oklahoma did. Would they have won the NC title? We'll never know. I think USC would have taken them, but that's just my opinion. We'll never truly know.

I'm glad that Auburn didn't try to claim themselves co-champs, as they would have just made themselves look silly. People are giving their coach/team crap about accepting the "People's National Champs" trophy that their fans/supporters had made up for them. But I don't see anything wrong with that at all, as they aren't saying that they ARE national champs.... they're just accepting their fans' award, and stating that they could have at least been contendors for the NC title if given the opportunity. Auburn's football program deserves that "People's" trophy in their trophy case to remember this remarkable season by, as it will likely be awhile before their program sees another one like they had this year.
