I agree that LSU will eventually be better off without the RP we all knew and hated. Clearly, if he'd have gotten his act together, he'd be one of the most dangerous QB's in the conference. But, that didn't happen, so I think he'd have let LSU down again at some point during the season; which would have been even more trouble then. Better to have ridded yourselves of that potential problem sooner rather than later, when something really major is at stake.
