Bush shines at USC pro day
LOS ANGELES, CA — The USC Trojans held their annual Pro Day yesterday in hopes of attracting notice for players hoping to be picked in the upcoming NFL draft. However, it was just one player that really stood out from the crowd.
“Everybody performed just about how we thought they would,” said Donnie Campbell, a scout with Oakland Raiders. “Except one guy, and that guy was Reggie Bush, and he really improved his standing. I honestly think that if the draft were held tomorrow, he might go as high as the third round. I mean, he really looked good.”
Bush, who has played the last two years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, was in Los Angeles for an appearance and decided to stop by the Rose Bowl and participate.
“I mean, this guy was unbelievable,” said Ron Bell, a Titans scout. “He was fast, and quick also – he showed good strength and good instincts. I don’t see him as a first day draft pick, but he could easily help some team as a third-down back and special teams player.”
Bush has no plans to re-enter the draft, much to the chagrin of several other teams. “I try not to overpay for players,” said Bears GM Jerry Angelo. “But if it gets to the fourth round and Reggie Bush is still there, we are going to have to think long and hard about taking him. Though we also need a third safety, so we could go safety at that point and hope Bush is there in the fifth.”
