NCAA Playoffs - how it should be

19 July 2014 - 08:31 PM

Thank god we finally have a playoff, a big step in the right direction.

The new system is better than what we had, but it needs to be 8 teams

5 - power 5 conference winners

oh, but a conference winner might have 3 or 4 losses...

So the Posted Image what, if a 7 - 9 NFL team can make the playoffs as a division winner, a 9 - 5 ACC conference winner can be an AQ for the playoffs.

THEN take the best 3 available teams.

Seed the teams 1 through 8 and BOOM

perfect playoffs

Bowl Pecking Order for 2014 season

17 July 2014 - 07:20 AM

As I understand it, here is what the "postseason" looks like for the SEC

1. Championship Playoff in either the Rose or Sugar Bowl.

2. Orange Bowl (the SEC still puts it's best available team in the Sugar bowl; BUT, when the Sugar is one of the "playoff venues', we have cut a deal with the Orange Bowl.

3. Capital One Bowl

AFTER THAT, the SEC selects which teams go to the:

4. Outback Bowl

5. Music City Bowl

6. Gator Bowl

7. Liberty Bowl

8. Texas Bowl

9. Belk Bowl

AFTER THAT, the

10. Birmingham Bowl will have its choice of any available SEC team.

ALL of our bowl tie ins are against the B1G, Big 12 & ACC. That sucks. We should have at least ONE out of 10 bowls be a PAC 12 tie in...

I, for one, will not miss Shreveport.

Oh yeah, the Peach Bowl also picks a highly ranked 'at large" team. Who thinks they won't take the best SEC team they can get?

So, unless the SEC champion gets left out of the playoffs (which could only happen if our champ has 2 losses and all the other champs are undefeated or only have 1 loss); we have to have TWELVE bowl eligible teams for Bham to get an SEC team...

I am pretty sure that the Peach is higher in the pecking order than the Capital one - can anyone confirm that?

You just have to wonder, why not?

Don't worry Aubs. I have done some research and am happy to give your recruiting efforts some help.
