Gregg Goff in at Bama

17 June 2016 - 03:35 PM

Alabama has its new baseball coach.

The Crimson Tide will hire Louisiana Tech's Greg Goff to replace Mitch Gaspard. He was introduced at a Friday afternoon news conference at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Alabama athletics director Bill Battle said he was looking for a coach who was prepared to take the Tide to the College World Series.

From the podium, Goff called this his dream job. He also promised to own the state of Alabama in the world of recruiting.

The new guy isn't unfamiliar with baseball in the state.

Goff coached Montevallo from 2004-07, leading the Falcons to the 2006 Division II World Series. He then spent seven seasons at Campbell before taking over at Louisiana Tech before the 2015 season. The Bulldogs made the NCAA regional in his second season -- the program's first postseason appearance since 1987 -- after going 25-27 in Year 1.

Goff's squad eliminated No. 22 Cal State Fullerton in the Starkville Regional before falling to No. 4 Mississippi State in the finals. The season ended with a 42-20 record.

Goff also has SEC experience after serving as Kentucky's pitching coach from 1999-2003.

Gaspard Battle said May 31 at the SEC spring meetings in Destin. "We'd like to have somebody with an Alabama connection. A lot of that is hard to find and then we'll get what we can find."
