while i enjoyed ellis johnson while he was at carolina, the lack of blitzing drove me crazy.  relying on three players to generate pressure was at times very frustrating.  which is why i love the way lorenzo ward runs our defense now.  lorenzo ward is taking advantage of the abilities of clowney, whereas ellis didnt.  enjoy the new hire auburn, you got a good one!

With our ends we shouldn't 'have' to blitz that much. Coaching to your player's strength's is the smart move. Right now our weakness is LBS so it will be interesting to see how he handles that.

Our DL will be very good next year under CEJ. With Whitaker, Wright, Lemonier, Blackson, Niles, Eguae, and Sanders all returning....

Plus possibly Lawson, Liner, and Bower joining?

I hope we never blitz again!!

you could have said the same with clowney and taylor manning the line, but more times than not we failed to get any real pressure on the quarterback...and that my friend was really frustrating!

Chizik never seemed to utilize his pass rushers on 3rd and 8 situations. Then again, Chizik hardly ever HAD the defense in a 3rd and 8 situation. I remember Tubs having elite edge rushers every single year he was here. McClover, Groves, Coleman to name a couple. He taught those guys to get upfield and pressure the shit out of the QB. Never saw that once under Chizik, but I believe Lemonier would thrive and possibly get 15 sacks a season if he was used primarily as 2nd/3rd down pass rusher.

I hope we always blitz all the time.    Why wouldnt you want to blitz?     A good throw  will always beat coverage.  QB that have time will always make a good throw.    Rush them and we can get a turnover.

The QB coaches and QBs in this league are smart, dude. You can't just blitz all the damn time. I say we should blitz about 30% of the time. Of course if we don't know how to disguise the blitz, then I hope we blitz 0% of the time because a blitz that gets picked up ALWAYS means trouble.

CEJ did a fairly sufficient job of disguising the blitz, did he not? I certainly remember him doing so. Talking to you, Cockfans

exactly, and if you want an example, look no farther than our matchup with arkansas last season!  we put no pressure on wilson, and he murdered us!

Oh don't get me wrong, I am not saying we shouldn't use the blitz at all. I am just saying if you blitz all the time you will just get burned really badly. You also have to have great 1v1 coverage on the outside to be able to blitz a lot. I don't think Auburn has the personal to do that all the time.
