Just to play Devils' Advocate, what about beating the best team in the nation (Texas A&M)?. And yes, I know they have 2 losses.

And for the record, I agree with UGA at #2 and Bama at #1. The only reason I bring this up is I don't fully agree with what you stated in red. It's more of a "total picture" decision IMO.

man oh man.............the Tide plays LSU......in death valley.......at nite........a team who hates the Tide and wanted revenge like a mofo.....Mettenburger plays out of his mind..........and we win but its a Original Image: http://www.sectalk.c.../lanekiffin.gifing knock against us?

the Tide plays a Georgia team that is a leader in offense and hell bent on winning and if not for a bs tipped ball call, we wouldve won handily but won anyway....and its a Original Image: http://www.sectalk.c.../lanekiffin.gifin knock against us?

the Tide plays the hottest team in college football led by the Heisman winner, gets behind in 1st quarter but holds them to 9 pts and 90 yards in the 2nd half and loses on the final play and the Tide sux?

You have to take records into account. If we didn't we wouldn't get anywhere.

Texas A&M beats Bama
Bama beat LSU
LSU beat USC
USC beat UGA
UGA beat Florida
Florida beat Texas A&M

See the second part that I added in my post (must have been editing it when you quoted my post). I agree that it's a total picture decision (e.g., records, etc.), but I didn't agree with your statement in red. You made it sound like UGA should be 2nd based only on taking Bama to the wire.

These are power rankings. They are week to week. We lost by mere yards and seconds to the best team in college football. That's second place. If we had backed our way into the title game then I would agree more information would be needed to place teams in a certain spot. There is no justifiable reason for any team jumping us over our performance against the Tide.

Like I said, I agree with UGA at #2. Just not completely with your rationale in your original post. I think even with Power Rankings you have to look at a little more than a week, especially when only two teams played that week. I would have had UGA #2 prior and kept them there as well. No biggy.

Whats your reasoning for UGA at 2? Even if we went week to week the last time we lost was to you guys. Which at that point in time I was ready to rank UGA just below Kentucky.

I would have had them at #2 behind Bama prior to the SECCG based on winning the East, one loss, and playing very well the last 3-4 weeks. I still believed Bama was the best team in the SEC even after their loss against Texas A&M and hence Bama #1. Some people consider the Power Rankings based only on a week (which is how HNB has defined it I believe). If I'm going to rank teams I can't go entirely on a week and have to look at other things as well. Power rankings are subjective so it's not a big deal IMO.

I think you could take any of the top 6 teams and on a given day they could defeat the other. Somedays are just not your day and it is all about when you play, who can play, and where you play. It is great to be a Gamecock!

I'd have A&M at 3rd, but can't argue with the rest. I'd put Auburn below Kentucky.

I didn't say anything about putting Florida ahead of UGA. Or anyone else for that matter.

I just think this is another annoying example of how playing a a close game against the best team somehow neutralizes the rest of the year.
In some people's mind anyway.
Like how UGA deserved a BCS bowl because of this close loss. No.
UGA beat Florida and lost to two other teams of that caliber. Now ranking them No.2 is all but assumed because they played Bama close?
No way.

Georgia is No.2 because there are three 11-1 teams. They beat one and lost to the other.
