At a loss for words in this one... here's one of those rare instances where MSU gets to play a game with a profound talent advantage, and they're losing anyway.

2012-13 SEC/ALC Championships: Men's Basketball, Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Women's Tennis, Lacrosse, Softball
2012-13 National Championships: Gymnastics, Men's Outdoor Track & Field

not much of a talent gap, State played a weak schedule and were exposed the last 5 games of the season.
NU is a private school with few, if any, in-demand recruits; there's a HUGE talent disparity in MSU's favor. Nearly every one of NU's classes is 2 times as far down the recruiting rankings as MSU's.
2012
MSU - #30
NU - #60
2011
MSU - #44
NU - #87
2010
MSU - #38
NU - #77
2009
MSU - #25
NU - #58

@GatorUnvrsty
Recruiting rankings don't mean very much unless you're in the top 5-8 every year and sometimes that doesn't even matter. (Texas and USC)
I'm not sure you can say a team is less talented when they whip the opposing team's offensive and defensive lines... They got whipped up front for 60 minutes.. Northwestern also beat a 9 win Vandy too... They're simply more talented

Or better coached. One thing I've seen over and over, and this happens in basketball too, is smart, well-coached, disciplined teams with a good understanding of the game and a great grasp of the fundamentals can frequently beat superior talent.
If you watch a team like Princeton basketball make and advance in the NCAA tourney, despite not having a single player that any of the other teams in the tourney would want, it soon becomes clear how they do it... minimize mistakes and play smart ball, which is something players at Princeton have no problem accomplishing.
I think NU is similar... they don't beat themselves.
