I'm good with it. I was adamant on Petrino, but this would be a solid hire. He could get us back to hardnosed disciplined football.

I'd much prefer a hardass defensive coach to the spread guys we're looking at. Auburn football has always been about strong defenses and great running games and it worked. Who is the most successful team in the country over the last five years? Alabama. What do they do? They play strong defense and have a great running game. We have the offensive line and running back talent to have a game similar to Bama's, they just haven't been well-coached. I would absolutely love to see what Kirby would do with the defensive recruits we potentially have coming in this year along with guys like Cassanova, Lemonier, Gabe, etc.
Kirby Smart is a risk because he hasn't been a head coach, but it's hard not to respect what he's done so far and he has a much better reputation for discipline than Chizik did so it wouldn't be fair to compare the two (And what I mean by that is that you never heard anything about Chizik's discipline, just that he was a player's coach. You hear about Kirby).

I kept failing a math test at the University of Alabama because every time I added 5+3 I got 8 and they kept insisting that the right answer was 14.

Is the announcement of the new coach happening today or tomorrow?

I'm also cool with Smart.
I want Petrino but if we get Smart we steal him from Bama before the ship AND get a legitimate, hard-working hardass.

I think Smart will make a fine HC somewhere. I don't buy this "no experience" nonsense. He's learned from the best and he knows what it takes at this level. Having said that, I'm not sure he'd be an instant success at Auburn, competing in-state with Saban. I feel like Auburn DOES need a more established commodity in that regard. I could see Smart making strides at a lower-tier SEC school, but going to Auburn for his first gig is sort of a risk.
Having said that, I wish him good luck wherever he goes. Part of me has hoped we could hold onto him long enough until Saban retires and then name him the new HC, but I don't think that's likely.

I'm hearing it's going to be Kirby. What's also odd is apparently he is making it no secret that he wants Georgia to not have to pay a buyout if they come calling for him... that seems awfully presumptuous on his part. He also is wanting to take Mike Bobo...

I can guarantee that if he's already preparing for a UGA job then Auburn won't hire him. Those rumors are either BS or will cost him the position.

It's rumored that his pay will be 6 years for $20 million, and he is wanting to take his friend Bobo with him.

Like I said, he's in no position to be making outlandish demands. Our committee is already trying to force our damn president to go with Petrino instead. If Smart starts acting dumb (no pun intended) then he may cost himself the offer.
If he gets the job then the buyout rumors etc are all bull.

LOL, if that's true he won't get either. For one, AU is not going to hire a coach who essentially comes in with an out clause to go to his alma mater. For another, Mike Bobo wouldn't leave Georgia to be OC at AU for the same reason Kirby wouldn't come be Georgia's DC. It's a lateral move, and Georgia is much more stable. Besides, Bobo is about to get a big pay raise at UGA.
