And that's another reason why the decision seems difficult.  Kaepernick is kicking ass, but his sample size is only two games; Brady (and Young) each had had successful playoff runs by the time the personnel decision had to be made.

yes but kicking ass under pressure....both QBs won't be there next year, unless they like each other and agree to share playing time. I think he made the right call even though it was tougher than you or I can probably imagine.

No doubt.  I remember Young and Montana and thinking, "Montana, definitely."  Turns out Young was the better choice at the time, or at least one that SF has no reason to second-guess, but at least I fell on one side or another and had a good idea why.  Then with Bledsoe and Brady, I remember thinking, "Brady, definitely."  Looks like a no-brainer, looking back.  With Smith and Kaepernick, though, I actually have no idea who I'd pick.  This for me would be a mental coin flip.

Yep, you gotta think he knows hes going to lose one of them though, and Kaepernick is younger, that couldve been a tipping point idk, I think pretty much everyone agrees with us though.

Kaepernick has been playing really well and I wish that we didn't knock Smith out of the game.

Just have to figure Harbaugh sees Kaepernicks ceiling higher than Smiths.  Ironically Smith wasn't really performing until Harbaugh got there and helped him improve.  Smith would be more attractive to other teams by being supportive.  I know it sucks though and can't say it'd be an easy thing to do.

So he is just entitled to be the starter? Even when there are more qualified, more talented players ready and available to start?

You probably would pick a minority candidate over a more qualified Caucasian candidate too. Stupid liberal...

The 49ers didn't draft Kaepernick to be Smith's backup. Alex Smith has never been that good. They've managed to coach him up to where he's done a decent job for them, but CK's ceiling is higher.

Harbaugh is doing what he thinks gives the team the best chance to win. No issue with that at all.

I'm sure that if someone simply explains this to Harbaugh, this whole mess will be sorted out by mid-afternoon.

Don't you ever doubt Harbaugh. Keapernick is a better QB, Smith takes sacks that kill drives. Smith played well, but he limited the offense. Moss and Manningham now can streach the field.
