Vols fans the long nightmare is almost over.  Smokey IX (61-52 , technically the third worse by winning percentage but Smokey I and Smokey V were only around for a few seasons a piece), is retiring at the end of the season.  He's reign starting from the 2004 Peach Bowl loss to Clemson through the end of this season has seen most of the low points in the program history.    Including the disaterous end of Phil Fulmer, the Kiffin hiring and subsequent surprise resignation, a loss in 2005 to Vanderbilt and Kentucky in 2011, and finally the Dooley error.  While none expected IX to replicate the run of VIII (91-22) no one envisioned that IX would fail so miserably.

Smokey X is set to take over at the O&W game this spring.  Brighter days ahead.
