We saw what the SEC tourney looked like when Kentucky somehow lost before the title game some years ago. It turned into a ghost town.

I agree whole heartily that Billy D deserves to see a packed house every game including cupcakes. 3 final fours, 2 championships, and numerous elite 8's in a decade is a huge feat for any program. Florida isn't even a basketball school. Still irritated about the fact that he rejected us twice.

There are some UF fans like Joe who still heavily support the basketball program so its not fair to categorize all of their fanbase as disloyal.

I wouldn't categorize the fan base as disloyal necessarily. It's not that good though.
Shame, because our home court is very difficult to play on when it is packed.

Gainesville is a 2 hour drive from Jax, 2.5 from Orlando, 2 from Tallahassee, 2 from Tampa.
That's a 4 or 5 hour round trip to make a game that only lasts two hours.
People have trouble committing to that on a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday night.

Since we are comparing everything to Kentucky for some unknown reason, Lexington is five times bigger than Gainesville too.
And we have weirdly committed followings to Lacrosse, Gymnastics, and Softball.
I guess it's a nice problem to have when your sports are so good they spread the fans too thin.

Anyway, it doesn't hurt my feelings if people want to badmouth our basketball fans. Go for it.
I just think it's stupid to try and degrade every other team just for the sake of doing it.
