Anyone here ever have a kidney stone? I have one right now and it is aweful! It is small enough to pass but I was wondering how long it takes. Does anyone have an idea?

I had one when I was 11.   They were originally sure I had appendicitis considering my age and the location of my pain.   I think I passed it 3 days later.  It hurt like a son of a bitch on it's way through the ureter, but actually passing it didn't hurt at all.    The only reason I knew I passed it was because they had me peeing into a strainer so they could see of what the stone was made.

It originally hurt so bad I couldn't keep down my pain meds, but once that changed it wasn't too bad.   However I was 11 so I could sit around for 3 days, have momz bring me all my food, and not move around much at all.   I'd guess that's different as an adult, hah.

Aside from lithotripsy there isn't much to make a stone pass faster.  Since the stone is in the ureter when it's causing the pain the only way to force it down the path is effectively to 'milk' the ureter.  For men it is impossible until the stone reaches the base of the penis. For women they can insert a finger into the vagina and pointing the finger toward the pubic bone move the finger in a 'come here' motion to milk the ureter.  It's worth a try even though its not always effective

I have had four.  I passed two the same day, had one crushed and they had go in after the last one.  None of the options were pleasant, but I was so glad I did not have to waller around the house for however long it was going to take to pass them.

If the urologist will crush it, try to get him to do so, it was the easiest.

Well they said mine was 3mm and I could pass it on my own in a couple of days so they sent me home with pain pills and that was Tuesday. I am suppose to be flying into Knoxville this coming weekend for the Tenn game and I want it to be over with before then.

My last stone was about that size, so my urologist did the same thing with me.  After about three days, I called the office and told him we had to take another route.  I went in and had another X-ray that showed that the stone had not moved, so he scheduled me for a cysto/stone extraction.  It was essentially painless, I just didn't like the idea of having those instruments poking around in my Johnson.  In my previous life, I had been a surgery nurse and had helped with a large number of said procedures, so I knew what they would be doing..

Yeah the only thing getting me through this is the pain pills they gave me but if this does not pass by Monday I am thinking about calling my Doc.
