Means we could afford Bourn for a short term deal...which I hear is a real possibility

Well that's a great option compared to Justin Upton, we would have too hard of a decision to make after those 3 years. This way we could make a run for the WS and have our money to commit elsewhere.

If we sign Bourn to a one year deal (which could very well happen), who plays center field?  Bourn appears to be the better defensive player out there but considering the fact that we just signed BJ Upton, should we give him the nod in that position?

Regardless, this would allow the Braves to be competitive short term while we have all of our other pieces in place.

If we have that much money to spare... Yeah I sign sign Bourn to a one year deal right now. Remind him (and Boras) he can get his FA big contract next year because teams won't have to worry about losing a draft pick and that all he has to do is have a good season. Bourn fits our current needs so perfectly... If we trade for Upton we don't have a leadoff hitter; if we sign Bourn we have a pretty good one.
Who knows, maybe we could sign Bourn and then trade a package deal for Billy Hamilton in the 2013 offseason. I think we'd be way better off in the long run (If Cincy would ever move him, which if we offered what it'd take to get Upton they probably would).
I kept failing a math test at the University of Alabama because every time I added 5+3 I got 8 and they kept insisting that the right answer was 14.

My first instinct is to say Bourn absolutely. He was the best defender in all of baseball last year and deserves the center field job. But since B.J. would be our future CF, I don't know... I wouldn't want him to get rusty playing LF for a season. There's also this interesting Fangraphs article on Bourn's projected future defense: http://www.fangraphs...efensive-value/

Bourn has to play CF. The catches he made last year alone warrant that. It should be his lose come spring. If Upton proves during the spring he's better, then so be it. To do it just keep Upton happy would be a mistake. We did that in the 90's with Kenny Lofton and he was nothing but a prima dona who would sit if he got a hang nail. Bourn should be in CF since hes the veteran Brave.

I actually agree with you 100% but not everyone might agree with that and in the end its all up to the front office, Wren and Fredi.

BJ's an athlete, I wouldn't worry about him getting rusty in LF. It's something we would have to risk, Bourn is too good in CF. Would be a hell of an outfield though, this off-season has been pretty exciting needless to say.

Which in certainly not opposed to. His defense and base running abilities would be worth it. We have one of the best defensive outfields in the league.
