A Tulane player has been injured vs Tulsa. They said when he was in the ambulance while they were cutting his pads off, that he stopped breathing. They admisinstered CPR, and said he was breathing again at the time the ambulance left the stadium. Its not a good sign how slow the ambulance was leaving with reports of him not responding to what the paramedics are doing to him.
Said to be Devon Walker of Tulane

I guess the word is now, he is at St Johns hospital in Tulsa. He is breathing but is still unresponsive. Obviously not out of the woods yet, and a very sad thing for a kid this age.

Maybe a bad time to bring it up, but does it seem to anyone else like there may be an issue with teaching proper tackling technique at some of these lower-level schools? I have no numbers to back it up, but it seems like when these really serious injuries happen, it's typically at lower-tier programs. That poor kid from Rutgers a couple of years ago, this kid now... it always seems like it happens in a game that features the LEAST physical football teams. You would think that you'd see these injuries happen more at the highest level, but it seems that it happens the opposite way. I've only seen the highlight once, but it looks like the kid at Tulane who is on his way to the hospital was leading with his helmet.

you don't learn to tackle in college. High school coaching nation wide is terrible
You certainly practice good tackling in college. That's why certain teams do it better than others. But there's definitely something to be said for teaching these good habits at the high school, hell, even pop warner level.

Broke his neck, collapsed lung. They did a tracheotomy on the field to keep him alive. He is stable, and in the Emergency and Trauma unit at St. Francis in Tulsa, Ok

He has our prayers. I am so sorry this happened to him. Here's to courage, peace, and a speedy recovery. We all hate to see things like this so much. It is extremely frightening.
