Maybe I'm extraordinarily naive, but what about a straight up flat tax. Get rid of all the loop holes, just have every single person in the country pay a certain percentage of their total income every year? Spending needs to be cut drastically as well. It just kind of bothers me that any millionaire has to pay 14% versus my 21%...

And fwiw, it's fascinating how this thread garners soooooooo many responses defending the beneficiaries of tax cuts since 1980, who have pocketed those tax cuts and outsourced jobs that were meant for American workers, yet the thread I created in which the Great Pretender, and modern-day icon of the Republican Party, Ronald Wilson Reagan, calls for the same thing Obama has been calling for gets no responses whatsoever. It's cool though, as long as you admit Reagan was a socialist by y'alls standards. .

Flat tax isnt a bad idea but 50% of people not paying any tax leaves the burden on everyone else. If you make money here, you should pay taxes here.

Think of how much money would be brought in when everyone who doesn't pay taxes now starts paying.

We have a progressive tax scheme.
It's something like those making under $25 k a year pay nothing at all, as under $25 k a year is considered being under the poverty line.

He also says everyone should pay something.  25% withheld does not necessarily mean you paid 25%.  What was important in that segment, was him saying it is important for everyone to know there are no free rides, that everyone is doing their part.   He also talks about removing loop holes.  All wise statements.

Illegals don't pay anything other then sales tax. No federal or state income taxes. Then about 49% of the general population get more refunded to them then they paid in taxes in the first place with all the deductions from kids and other credits and such.
