Spurrier: Connor Shaw having ‘trouble lifting his arm right now’

Shaw threw for only 67 yards against the Commodores — it should be pointed out he wasn’t having a great game throwing the ball before he was injured, either — but there was no questioning his toughness. Shaw ran the ball with reckless abandon, though he might be paying for it later.
“It’s just painful for him,” Steve Spurrier said Sunday. “And he has trouble lifting his arm right now so it’s pretty hard to play quarterback.”
Shaw took a lot of shots during the second half of Thursday’s game. He was in visible pain for much of the night.
Spurrier added that playing Shaw against East Carolina was a “wait and see” situation. For now, Shaw will miss at least a couple of practices. If he can’t go against the Pirates, backup Dylan Thompson could get the start.

This is where it pays off to actually start against a decent opponent, because now we have 2 easily winnable games before taking on Mizzou at home. It just sucks if Shaw has to sit for a game because it takes away an opportunity for him to work on his timing with WR's in real game action.

Yeah, caused a bruise...and probably a hell of a bruise from the looks of it. Now like you said it's probably knotted all to hell. I'm sure they'll be working it out, but in the meantime he probably won't be doing a lot other than letting it loosen up.

Hope Shaw makes a full recovery because he seems like a good kid and has got tremendous heart to play as injured as he was

If Shaw doesn't learn to get the
down properly, it could very well cost USC an SEC game we would've won otherwise. That's the way it goes though...sort of a "live by the gun, die by the gun" philosophy....more like "live by the QB run, die by the QB run" for us.

Sounds like Shaw is probably going to play on Saturday anyway. It's a pain tolerance issue more than limited movement. There's no structural injury. If it turns out he does need a week off, Spurrier said today that Dylan Thompson is still next in line, which I'm fine with. Yeah he looked terrible last week, but he played in some more favorable scenarios last season and handled it well. He's going to get a lot more run with first team this week too.
As for Shaw's playing style, there's no doubt people are going to be gunning for him. But he started 8 games last year playing the exact same style without getting hurt. I doubt everyone was avoiding hitting him last year.

Spurrier has said that in interviews before and after the injury. The only time I can remember him sliding feet first is in the Clemson game when he already gained 25 and saw a big hit coming.
