UGA's WR/CB Malcolm Mitchell to miss Georgia's opener against Buffalo

ATHENS - As it turns out, Malcolm Mitchell will not make his cornerback debut on Saturday. When he does is now an open question.The sophomore sustained a left ankle sprain during Thursday's practice, UGA announced on Friday. He was ruled out for the season opener against Buffalo, and spokesman Claude Felton added that there are "no projections at this point on his availability for next week's game."That would be the SEC opener at Missouri.The move on Mitchell could be precautionary, as it is a non-conference game and Georgia is a heavy favorite. That would seem to depend on the nature of the sprain; a high-ankle sprain is more serious. Georgia just called it a left ankle sprain.Ironically, Mitchell moved to cornerback in the offseason because of attrition at that position. Now he will miss the opener, along with top cornerback Sanders Commings, who is suspended the first two games.Sophomore Damian Swann and senior Branden Smith will get the start in their absence.

Smart of UGA to keep him out of this game. Cannot risk him irritating his ankle and him being out for the Mizzou game. Hopefully hes ready to rock against Mizzou in 2 weeks.
