AUBURN, Alabama – Signees JaQuay Williams and Darrion Hutcherson won't be playing football at Auburn this fall after the Eligibility Center said this week they are not academically qualified.
Williams, a wide receiver, is headed to a prep school, Fort Union Military Academy in Virginia, and could enroll at Auburn in December. Hutcherson is headed to Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson, Miss.
Auburn had held out hope they would be qualified, even though they had missed more than three weeks of practice. Auburn expects them to eventually enroll.
Auburn lost another signee, running back Jovon Robinson, to a similar NCAA Eligibility Center ruling last week when it threw out a high school grade that was changed. Robinson practiced with the Tigers before the ruling.
Williams had 47 receptions for 972 yards and nine touchdowns last year at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga. Hutcherson caught 31 passes for 550 yards and six touchdowns last year at Dadeville High School.
