Burrows Set to Return to Georgia

ATHENS -- Brandon Burrows won't be transferring from Georgia after all.
The redshirt sophomore linebacker announced he was leaving the team last Thursday, but had a change of heart shortly thereafter.
"Leaving gave me a lot of time to think about things and really just pray about my situation," Burrows said.
A 6-3, 240-pound Marietta native, Burrows initially committed to Georgia to play defensive end in the 4-3 scheme under coordinator Willie Martinez.
The 4-3 scheme left when Martinez was fired following the 2009 season. Burrows stuck to his commitment despite the change to the 3-4 defense brought forth by coordinator Todd Grantham.
Burrows was moved from his natural position to inside linebacker prior to last season.
Thoughts of returning to defensive end were the main reason behind Burrows intent to leave the program.
"I came out of high school playing the defensive end position in a 4-3 defense which is what I truly love," Burrows said at the time. "The coaching change here led to a 3-4 defense. I have worked with that transition but decided that I want to get back to playing defensive end. I think another program may give me the best opportunity to succeed at that."
Injuries and position changes have kept Burrows behind on the depth chart since redshirting in 2010.
He's endured knee and shoulder injuries dating back to his high school career, but is finally "100 percent healthy," after redshirting in 2010 and missing all of last year following shoulder surgery.
Being 100 percent healthy led to Burrows' return, as defensive line coach Rodney Garner spoke to Burrows and his family after he announced he intended to leave.
"Coach Garner presented some good points," Burrows said. "This season is going to be the first where I would have been able to compete and be healthy since coming to Georgia.
"I owe it to myself to be be here. It would be some kind of an injustice to myself to walk away at this point."
After changing his mind, Burrows spoke with coach Mark Richt after returning to the team. "I'm so happy he was kind enough to take me back," Burrows said.
Burrows will remain at linebacker, he said. He was in contact with Appalacian State and Jacksonville State before deciding to return.
