Shortstop Nolan Fontana (Winter Garden, Fla.), a member of the 2012 Gator baseball team, signed with the Houston Astros on Tuesday and will forgo his final year of eligibility at the University of Florida.

The Astros have set the precedent for how to deal with this new draft format.    If you really like 2-3 guys equally, go with the kid who you can pay the least and use that saved money on the rest of your picks.    They probably saved 3 million not picking Appel or Gausman.    As a result they're easily signing everyone, including McCullers who everyone seemed to agree on draft night was a lock to end up at UF.
