I thought Oxford was alright.  Pretty, quaint campus (although I'd disagree with any publication that ranked it as the prettiest campus in the nation).  Seems like a nice place to visit but I think I'd get bored pretty quickly.  Never been to Starkganistan so I can't comment.

As for Auburn's campus, it was nicer than I expected.  Which was a welcome site after driving so many miles and seeing nothing but shit. .

madison, ridgeland, southaven, bay st. louis, natchez, ocean springs all are better...common dawg.  oxford has its own little hidden secrets...ever driven down jefferson davis dr?  yeah, those are trailers....and a mobile home park right off jackson street.  oxford is a neat little town, but bluntly stated, its overrated.  the square on the other hand is one of the best if not the best small town public areas in the state.  ill give u that.  im not trying to push my msu lean, but trying to be as unbiased as my admittedly biased self can be, its overrated.  there are several buildings near the grove that need total demolition and are a soar thumb to the university.  the grove is nice (particularly in the spring), but that only goes so far.  the town has some history, but it is dramatically over-romanticized by om fans.  im not trying to down the town, just trying to give my best attempt at a neutral opinion.  either way, the town itself is better than starkville, but its hardly the nicest town in the state....at least in my opinion.

Southaven is a shithole just like Horn Lake.  Zero, one of kind restaurants and they have whore'd themselves out to anyone that wants to start a business there; it's a mish mash of every retail store imaginable and it has no identity.  I know, I lived there regretfully for five years. Cookie cutter housing and on top of that there's nothing like building industrial warehousing around suburban housing developments.  That's what they get for electing a mayor only concerned with getting paid.

Oxford is the best city in Mississippi for originality. Madison, ridgeland, southhaven, Bay St. Louis, Ocean springs and the like (I think gulfport and Biloxi are better coast cities.) are just chain restaurant after chain restaurant. Cookie cutter houses and the like.

If you ever come to Oxford you'll find a quaint city filled with Original restaurants and great bars. You have to go to any restaurant owned by John Currence, Big bad Breakfast, Boure, Snackbar, and City Grocery. Go to Ajax's for a good po-boy. For the night life you have to go to Rooster's blues club, The Library, or the Round Table. Watch out though the cops in Oxford have gotten pretty intense lately.

Wikipedia say Oxford has poverty rate at 32.2%. Starkville is 31.1%. Compare that to 2.5% for Madison or 6.0% for Brandon.

I'm talking wealth, not income.

Oxford is just Oxford.  It's got originality to it, something that most places do not have in today's world of franchises and corporations.

IN addition to your last sentence, I'll add that the Oxford police seem to have taken the route that Republicans have taken; say you want to do only what is necessary for protection purposes, then add security cameras all over the square. Big gov't crap.

Oh, and DJ Mario still sucks because he sucks. Never have understood why he changed up his ending song.

I find its easier to go through life by assuming, when you encounter someone with the title DJ in front of their name, that whatever they do is going to suck.

Still isn't Dixie, is it?

Mario is a nice guy and so is his wife...I had to deal with her a lot freshmen year due to scholarship stuff.  But he's merely an average DJ.  Which basically means he's fine until the crowd wants Dixie.

Yep. Apparently he changed up the routine last spring semester.
FDWL is a great song to end it on after you've hit on all the women in the Library and gotten proper drunk.
Sorry, but playing "Wobble" for the 6th time that night just doesn't cut it for me. I like it the first three times they play it, but after that, meh.

I never stay long at Funky's or the Library, which are his usual spots.  Somehow I always end up at Roosters or Burgundy Room for most of the night.  So I havent heard much of ol Mario in the last year or two

Yeah, it's usually Roosters or the Library for me.
Course that new-ish clube they have down the road from Funky's isn't bad either. Had a damn good time there about 3 weeks ago.
