Ok I am moving and Directv is moving/setting up my stuff at the new apartment tomorrow....then it occurred to me that no one will be at my old apartment when the guy gets the dish...so i called directv and they said they just bring me a new dish to the new apartment and it doesn't matter about the old one...i asked what they did with the old ones and he said, "it just stays there, we dont do anything with them"...

is this right??...anybody moved with directv before??...do they really just discard them like that??...what happens if i keep the old one or the apartment complex doesnt want it on the balcony anymore??

When I oved in there was already a dish set up. Used to have Time Warner Cable, but since they didn't offer it at my new house I went with DirecTV. I actually like it better now.

I'm assuming they leave it there because:

-it's advertising for their product

-instead of paying someone to take it down they can just leave it there so if someone wants it in the future all they have to do is activate it

also should've added that you probably can't take it with you. You never buy the dish so it doesn't belong to you. Unless you get permission from them you'd be stealing it.

Its makes it easier to get the people that move in to use dtv. For them its far better to have it in place than for you to send it back as even I you don't us it it looks like you do to other folks moving in. Besides those dihes get updated ever so often so having a stock pile of outdated dishes just doesn't make sense. I have gone from a small round one to two small round ones to a bigger oval one in 10 years

Did you bring the LNB?  That's the expensive part of the dish that they care about, the rest is just an aluminum stamping for all intents and purposes.

Ehh well, maybe they figure it's one less dish/lnb combo they have to put up if somebody else moves in there who wants DTV.  I just know the LNB was one of the things I had to return when I switched from Dish to DTV...

Have you never noticed satellite dishes all over the place in your apartment complex? I had one in my backyard when I moved in to my last apartment for the duration of my stay from the previous tenant. Like someone said, it's free advertisement until someone decides to throw it in the trash.
