Courtney Alvis, 17, began receiving chemotherapy treatment as a junior at Hueytown High School in Hueytown, Ala., and she's now determined to make it to the big dance -- but not without some apprehension, MyFoxAl.com reports.

"I wasn't comfortable with my body and of course I didn't have long pretty hair to fix and also I didn't have a date," she told the website.

That led Alvis' uncle -- who has some connections to University of Alabama -- to contact Richardson, the Heisman trophy finalist who is expected to be the first running back selected in the 2012 NFL Draft. In football-mad Alabama, there is no bigger star.

Great story....kuddos to Trent and the university for making this happen. It's great to see that people that CAN make a difference DO when the opportunity arises.

Just read this article on Yahoo. I've taken off the homer goggles and still cannot think of one negative thing I've ever heard about Trent Richardson. He has become one of my favorite college football players of all time. Pure dedication to go along with a great heart. Having bumped into him one time between classes when he was a freshman, I can tell you he is a genuinely nice person and I wish more athletes would emulate him. Hopefully a lot of younger athletes will have Trent as their role model.

Let me add to that. We need more people like that in college sports. I think its great what TR is doing for this young woman. Ive always said he is a stand up guy who loves the sport and keeps his nose clean. The fact that he has two young daughters whom he participates in their lives along with college stresses is a standout person to me. I really wish current and furture college athletes would take a look at Trents example and follow his lead. High Five Trent
