Inability to use a remote control is an epidemic that doesn't get the attention it deserves.

I had to laugh at myself earlier.  I was pissed that the Sox were so cheap ONLY offering Lester 6 for $135mil.  That's actually a fair offer, but Boston screwed themselves last offseason.  They offer 5 for 100 last year, and I'll bet a deal gets done in that range.  When Homer Bailey signed for 30 million more than the Red Sox were offering, Lester can't take that as anything other than an insult.

Can't blame Lester.  Congrats to the Cubs for blowing him away.   It's gonna take me awhile to stop disliking Joe Maddon, but I'll be rooting for the Cubs anyway.

Maddon, Lester, Miguel Montero and Jason Hammel, this has been a very productive offseason for the Cubs......most excitement I have seen around Cubs baseball since Kerry Wood and Mark Prior were still throwing heat.

Just wanted to say thanks to Ole Miss.  Just saw Senquez Golson is an ESPN All-American, and thought I remembered he almost signed with the Red Sox.   Sure enough, they were surprised when he turned down their 7-figure offer so he could attend Ole Miss.

It worked out great for both sides though.   I just learned today that they decided to up their bonus offer to another draftee after Golson turned them down.   He thankfully accepted that extra cash, and his name is Mookie Betts...a young player almost all evaluators consider a future All-Star.

Bonus points because Betts was going to play for the Tennessee Volunteers if he didn't sign with Boston.

Reds trade off Latos and Simon yesterday to make payroll and to help secure Cueto and Leake long term.   Argggggghhhhhhhh.  I don't know who were bringing up to the rotation, but those are two damn good arms we just let go.

....good but replaceable arms.   As long as they do so and can sign the far less replaceable Cueto, this is a big win I think.   Before this the Sox and just about every other big money club figured they had a shot at Cueto now or in July at the latest.  That talk died down almost completely.

Im glad we want to sign him for the long term but our bats need to wake up. Bruce and Votto spent time on the DL and Phillips is getting up there

Padres have had one of the crazier offseasons in awhile.  They've added Matt Kemp, Wil Myers, Justin Upton, Derek Norris, and Will Middlebrooks all via trade while only giving up ONE of their stud prospects.   They still have 3 more that everyone assumed would be included in some of these deals.

Their defense might be comically awful though, so it will be interesting to see how much better they really are next year.  Pitching staff should remain pretty good.
