Commodores will scrimmage at 10 a.m. CT Saturday.

April 6, 2012

Posted ImageThe Commodores prepped for their last scrimmage before the Black & Gold Spring Game with an enthusiastic practice Friday afternoon at the John Rich Practice Facility.

"That was a good one, with good energy and intensity," Head Coach James Franklin told the squad after the fast-paced two-hour workout. The team continued its passing game focus with extended 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 segments, and addressed improvements in special teams, no-huddle situations and red-zone efficiency.

The session helped Franklin prepare the squad for their third spring scrimmage, scheduled Saturday in Vanderbilt Stadium. It will mark the team's final full-contact scrimmage until the Black & Gold Scrimmage, which is scheduled Saturday, April 14 at 6 p.m.

Young Receivers Sparkle
Three young Commodores who had yet to catch their first collegiate pass - wide receivers Jacquese Kirk and Josh Grady and H-back Kris Kentera - continued to impress on Friday. Each posted acrobatic receptions during the practice, including a diving one-handed grab by Kirk in tight coverage.

Hal, Morse, Herring Making Plays on Defense
Junior cornerback Andre Hal continued his strong spring performance, grabbing yet-another interception in team drills. Sophomore defensive tackle Jared Morse created plenty of havoc during practice, including penetrating deep into the offensive backfield to disrupt two early plays in the 11-on-11 segment. Freshman linebacker Darreon Herring showed physicality and athleticism while he continues to grasp the defensive scheme.

Gates Open at 9:30 a.m. Saturday
Gates at Vanderbilt Stadium will open Saturday at 9:30 a.m., for fans wanting to watch the Commodores' third scrimmage.

Fans are encouraged to enter the stadium through Gate 2 near the Natchez Trace-Jess Neely Drive intersection.
