If Kentucky beats Kansas tomorrow night for #8, 1978 and 2012 will be linked as that was the last time Alabama and Kentucky won national championships in football and basketball respectively in the same year.

Yeah, they had another thread here while back about Calipari being the gay version of Saban or something to that effect. My memory's not
what it used to be so don't quote me on that.

But for some reason they feel like them and Bama need to pair off.

Nah, the connection is who brought Bama the 1978 NC and five others. Until Fran and many may still feel that same way about Texas A&M as Kentucky with Bear and Stallings. I think we also have respect for each other and kinda know how it is when it comes to our programs. In Alabama it's Roll Tide or War Eagle just after you say Mama or Dada. Kentuckians feel the same about that basketball team... College football is bigger than it's ever been but in Alabama it's always been this big it's all we got.
"I didn't come to Alabama to win 10 games a year and be a contender. I came here to win championships, Conference Championships, and National Championships. I love it here because that's not just what I want, but what this fan base expects." -Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban

It's life and death here.  As can be seen by the riots, burning cars, etc last night...or the poisoning of trees.....we both can go a bit overboard.

I was not trying to bring it "back to Alabama football". I was simply making a statement of fact. History tends to repeat itself. The two are argubably the best all time in there sport of championships no matter what measure you use...two of the founding members of the league.

I did too....
"Whenever I see those crimson jerseys and crimson helmets, I feel humbled to have played football for Alabama. Other players in the NFL talk to me about their schools and their traditions. I just smile knowing the immense love Alabama fans have for our school and its football program. I'm proud to be a part of that Crimson Tide heritage."
