Game Notes - Florida Posted Image

VANDERBILT RE-VU
The Commodores finished off a two-game sweep of Siena with an 11-4 weather-shortened win Wednesday night. Riley Reynolds scored three runs and hit his first career home run and Vince Conde belted his second round tripper of the season in the victory. Vanderbilt cruised by Siena with a 12-2 win Tuesday night. Keenan Kolinsky turned in 6.1 solid innings for his first collegiate victory and Tony Kemp and Anthony Gomez combined for eight hits and eight RBI. A six-run third inning was too much to overcome for the Commodores in Sunday's 9-7 loss to San Diego. Vince Conde hit his first collegiate home run and Conrad Gregor drove in two runs in the loss. San Diego edged Vanderbilt 2-1 in a pitchers' duel Saturday. The Dores mounted a ninth inning, two-out rally that ended with the bases loaded. The Commodores blanked San Diego 7-0 in the series opener behind Kevin Ziomek's strong eight-inning outing. The lefty fanned eight to earn his second win of the season.

ON THE BUMP
Friday, March 16
LHP Kevin Ziomek (2-1, 3.09) vs. RHP Hudson Randall (2-0, 3.65)

Saturday, March 17
RHP Drew VerHagen (2-1, 3.93) vs. LHP Brian Johnson (2-0, 4.12)

Sunday, March 18
RHP Tyler Beede (0-2, 7.24) vs. RHP Jonathon Crawford (1-1, 5.71)

JUNIOR HIT MEN
Juniors Mike Yastrzemski and Anthony Gomez have led the Vanderbilt offense early in the season. The two have combined for 15 of the team's 36 multi-hit games and boast the top two batting averages on the squad (Yastrzemski .379, Gomez .394). Yastrzemski has multi-hit games in three of the last five (9-for-17) and Gomez has four in his last six games (12-for-26). Gomez tied for the team lead a year ago matching Jason Esposito and Aaron Westlake with 30 multi-hit games. Yastrzemski has almost half as many multi-hit games already this season as he did as a sophomore last season (15). The duo has provided a big portion of the offense this season combining to hit .387 (48-for-124) with 32 RBI and 26 runs scored. Subtract their production and the team batting average slips from .273 to .239 and the club's runs per game falls from 6.4 to 4.9.

SHARING THE LOAD
Vanderbilt's pitching staff has split the pitching load almost evenly early in the season. The squad's starters have pitched 75.1 innings allowed 73 hits, issued 32 walks and struck out 63 batters while the team's relievers have pitched 70.2 innings allowed 71 hits, walked 32 and fanned 63.

COMING AROUND
Vandy's offense has come around since the Dores' opening weekend trip to Stanford. Throw out the first three games of the season and VU is hitting .286 as a team and averaging 6.9 runs per game while going 7-7.

GATOR RASSLIN'
The Commodores and Gators renew their rivalry this weekend in a series that dates back to 1927. Vanderbilt is 63-122-1 against Florida all-time, including last season when the Gators beat the Dores in five of six games. Florida topped Vandy in the SEC Championship Game and twice in Omaha at the College World Series.
