Game Notes - Oregon Posted Image

VANDERBILT RE-VU
Vanderbilt won the team's first game of the season with an 11-4 victory over Oakland Wednesday night. Mike Yastrzemski's three-run homer in the third capped a five-run third inning and Anthony Gomez posted his second three-hit game of the season. Stanford completed a three-game sweep over Vanderbilt Sunday in Palo Alto, Calif. with an 18-5 win. The Commodores committed five errors in the game to increase the team's three-game total to 11. Anthony Gomez led the way for VU with three hits in the loss. Gomez and Connor Harrell had at least one hit in each game of the three-game series. The Commodores lost 9-5 Saturday despite Connor Harrell's two home runs and four RBI. Vanderbilt dropped the season opener at Stanford 8-3. Freshman Chris Harvey led the Dores with two hits and fellow freshman Vince Conde drove in two runs in the loss.

Saturday, February 25
LHP Sam Selman (0-1, 10.80) vs. RHP Jake Reed (0-0, 1.50)

CORBIN NAMED SPORTS PERSON OF THE YEAR
Head Coach Tim Corbin was named Middle Tennessee's Sports Person of the Year at the 14th annual Pepsi Celebration of Champions Wednesday night at the Grand Ole Opry House. Coach Corbin was recognized after leading the Commodores to Vanderbilt's first-ever College World Series last June. He becomes the fourth Commodore to earn the award joining former football coach Bobby Johnson (2008), former golf star Brandt Snedeker (2007) and former quarterback Jay Cutler (2005). Last season's ace Sonny Gray was named the Male Athlete of the Year becoming the sixth Commodore to earn that award and second baseball player (David Price in 2007).

GOMEZ WALKING, HITTING
Just four games into his junior campaign Anthony Gomez already has reached one-third (3) of his walk total (9) from a year ago. The Dores' shortstop walked twice in Wednesday night's win, something he did only once all of last season. Gomez is also the only Commodore to have a hit in each game this season, including three multi-hit games, and has knocked in four runs in his last two games.

DORES AGAINST DUCKS
Vanderbilt and Oregon will play for the first time this weekend. The Oregon program was dormant until Head Coach George Horton was hired away from Cal State Fullerton four years ago. Since the Ducks revival, the team is 89-91-1 under Horton in four years.
