FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas sophomore pitcher Barrett Astin was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office. The honor is the second SEC weekly honor of Astin’s career. Last season, Astin was named the league’s freshman of the week after earning a save and a win in a doubleheader against Ole Miss to close the regular season.

A sophomore right-handed pitcher from Forrest City, Ark., Astin started the series finale against Villanova on Sunday and earned the win, throwing five hitless innings with seven strikeouts. Astin, who set a new career high with five innings pitched, retired the first seven batters he faced and closed the outing by sitting down seven of the last eight batters.

For his career, Astin has a 6-2 record with three saves and a 2.51 ERA in 28 appearances, including four starts. In 64.2 career innings pitched, Astin has struck out 64 batters and held the opposition to a .241 batting average.

Astin and the rest of the No. 4 Arkansas baseball team return to the field on Tuesday and Wednesday as they host Northwestern State in a two-game series at Baum Stadium. First pitch for both games is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. Single-game tickets for both contests are $10 for reserved seats and $8 for general admission tickets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647), by visiting the online ticket center at ArkansasRazorbacks.com or on gameday at Baum Stadium.
