COLUMBIA, Mo. - Seniors Jarrett Sutton and Laurence Bowers were named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams, announced by the Big 12 Conference on Thursday. Sutton earned a spot on the first team while Bowers was named to the second team.

The first team honor for Sutton is the first of his career. The guard has seen action in 46 games in his four-year playing career, including 12 this season. Sutton has played a career high 54 minutes in 2011-12 and tied his personal best with six points against Cal in the CBE Classic title game on Nov. 22. He earned his bachelor's degree in business marketing in May and is currently pursuing a master's degree in health education.

Bowers made the second team for the second time in his career, after also earning the honor as a sophomore in 2009-10. The forward is taking a medical redshirt this season after suffering a season-ending knee injury in October. Bowers was named to the Big 12 All-Defensive Team and was an All-Big 12 honorable mention last season after averaging 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per contest. He was Mizzou's defensive presence in the paint after blocking 62 shots a year ago, which ranked second in the conference and stands as the third-best single-season output in Tiger history. Bowers is pursuing a sociology degree.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshman and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. <br clear="left"/>
