He left the team for personal reasons.  Wish him well.

Well that sucks....he's a good left fielder and CWS experience can't be coached, I don't care how good Ray Tanner is.  Wish him the best but would be interested to know what these personal reasons are.   I know he missed a big chunk of the spring practices so it may be that he wasn't going to make the roster and just decided to get a head start on looking for somewhere else to play.

I'll never forget his two plays in foul territory in Omaha and that throw to the plate to gun down that UF player at the plate.  But for all those plays he made and the consistency he provided, he's probably the most replaceable player we had coming back.  Hope Adam Matthews can stay healthy cuz with Jake gone, an injury to any of our remaining OF's would be a blow.

Let me get this straight. We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and will be fined for if we don't, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts itself from it, signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and financed by a country that's broke.

What could possibly go wrong?

He apparently isn't going to another school right away.  He is close to graduating so he is still in school at Carolina.

Heard he wasn't going to make the final roster cut. Good luck to him in the future. I will never forget "the throw".  Man that whole post season was awesome.

I am reading he did not make the final roster. Is this an indication of the added talent in the outfield or is it a personel fall off for Jake?

The answer at this point appears to be yes.

Personal struggles could be an issue, but there's no doubt we added some great OF talent.    For one, Adam Matthews is perfectly healthy this year.   But the real newcomer is Tanner English.   He was an 11th round draft pick of the Rays, and I've seen at least one reference to Ray Tanner saying he's the fastest player he's ever coached.  Oh and he can hit too.

I can't help but think of Willie Mays Hayes every time I hear how the coaches have been drilling English to hit line drives, keep the ball down, and bunt due to his great speed.   English started out hitting a lot of long popups when practice started, but it sounds like he's getting it....probably due to all the pushups he's been doing in the box.

Other newcomers that would end up being competition for ABs at DH include:  Kyle Martin,  Grayson Greiner when he's not behind the plate, and TJ Costen, who Ray seems to really like but isn't going to win the 2b job for opening day.   Costen could end up playing some OF too.
