This is the most recent Chris Jones interview published 5 days ago before the whole is he going to visit hoopla.
Up until the last month, the Houston, Miss., native has been able to stay out of the spotlight having committed to Mississippi State back in June. But Jones' cover was blown on the all-star circuit standing out at both the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic as well as the Under Armor All-American Bowl.
On Monday, Jones became one of the highest risers in Rivals.com history moving from unranked to the 20th overall prospect nationally and jumping from a three-star prospect all the way to a five-star.
"It's a great honor but I still feel like I can do better," Jones said.
With Jones' newfound fame comes the recruiting attention that comes with it. Schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and others have tried to jump in the mix with the star defensive end late.
Jones committed to the Bulldogs over the summer after they became his first offer and enjoyed a relatively smooth recruitment for five months following. As a senior, Jones notched 155 tackles (74 solo, 81 assists), 40 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 48 quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and a 71-yard interception return for a touchdown.
But even with those gaudy statistics and leading the Hilltoppers to their first playoff victory in school history, no other schools had even called Jones. That is until he posted 11 tackles, five stops for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass breakup in his two all-star apperances.
Since then the floodgates have opened for his recruitment with multiple assistant coaches stopping by his high school and home on a daily basis since the dead period ended hoping to get Jones on campus for an official visit.
"It hasn't been too crazy, it's just how you handle it man," Jones said. "You can't let it get out of hand. You've got to keep it all slow and can't get too over yourself."
The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder took his first official visit last weekend to MSU to get better acquainted with new defensive line coach David Turner as well as his future teammates.
"It was alright," Jones said. "I got to meet Coach Turner and his wife. Deontae Skinner was my host and I got to chill with him a little bit and some of my favorite players like Dak Prescott, Gabe Jackson and Dillon Day. I got to meet those guys and see what their personalities are like. Everything went pretty good."
With Houston being located less than 40 miles from Starkville, Jones has been a frequent visitor to the Bulldogs campus since his commitment. His trip this past weekend was the third known visit to State that he has taken since the new year began.
His familiarity with those surroundings was apparent on his official visit over the weekend.
"I toured the campus for the 'humpteenth millionth' time," Jones said. "But it was alright though. (The Seal complex) was nice looking. I thought it was going to be nice but not as nice as they made it."
Several schools are vying to get Jones on their campus over the final two weekends before signing day. However an invitation from Dan Mullen to return to Starkville this weekend to help aid the Bulldogs recruiting efforts might be where he ends up.
"I might if I ain't got nothing to do," Jones said when asked if he planned to take Mullen up on his offer.
Although Jones now has the notoriety as one of the nation's best, it appears that his commitment to Mississippi State remains as solid as it was two days removed from the Bulldogs summer camp in June.
"Nothing has changed," Jones said.
Does this seem like a kid excited about State?
I read it this way....
You just get home from a date and your friend asks you how it went. You say:
"It was alright," Everything went pretty good. This was like the 'humpteenth millionth' time but it was alright though. She was nice looking. I thought she was going to be nice but not as nice as she made it."
Then he asks if you are going out with her again and you say:
"I might if I ain't got nothing to do,"
Looks to me like you aren't that really into her and certainly not going to date her for four or five years:-b

"We didn't play out of hatred for anyone. It was more of playing out of love for one another and this university." - Coach Freeze
University of Mississippi officials have confirmed reports that the school’s reserve of damns has been completely exhausted.
“We are out of damns to give. We do not give one single damn,” Chancellor Dan Jones told reporters

Jesus, How is Herbert Moore going to qualify if he barely has an adequate grasp on the english language.

Mom and grandma cling to State. Daddy likes OM. He lives with momma and grandma. Everything else is up in the air.

Well, everyone knows that Freeze can recruit.
I'm fairly sure the 2008 and 2009 seasons proved that and that Nutt is still thanking Freeze for that and the $6 million he earned from it.
The question is, can he handle the big stage and the spotlight and can he coach worth a damn?
He is starting out with a mighty rough schedule after all.
