Don't think you're hating, Vader. You make a fair argument, and your reasons are exactly why, despite the fact that I feel we are a better team, that I think OSU is more "deserving" of the chance than we are.
As we've seen many times in these BCS scenarios, the argument for who the two "best" teams are, and the two most "deserving" teams...are usually entirely different discussions.
I still do not agree with the idea of a full-fledged playoff, but this year perhaps more than any other year serves as evidence that college football at least needs to implement a plus-one system.

I don't even think we need a plus one system this year. We are going to implement a plus one so that Bama will get two shots?

We just need to clearly define who gets in the NC game. Is it the two best teams or the two most deserving? Then all this arguing goes away. It's like the Heisman. Some say it's the best player, some say it's who has the best stats, some say it's who means the most to their team, some say it's best player on a team in the NCG.

Auburn fans. Please stop bringing up 2004 because it is completely unrelated to what happened here in 2011 and in fact, is an example of the complete OPPOSITE of circumstances this year. You guys got screwed, no doubt. But you only got screwed because the #1 and #2 teams NEVER lost throughout the entire year. This year, Bama only sneaked back to #2 BECAUSE other teams lost. It's the exact opposite of what happened in 2004. With that said, I do think you guys got screwed in 2004 because I think you could have given USC a better game, but I don't think the comparison is fair here, or even relevant.
With that said, if we get left out, I don't think we will have gotten screwed as Auburn did in 2004. IMO the system has worked out every year to produce the best 2 teams playing for the title. I believe the system works, even if we don't get in.

Let me start by saying that I believe that LSU and Bama are the clear cut best teams in college football and I badly want to see them play again in BCS Title game....however, there is a sick and twisted part of me that wants to watch the train wreck that would be OK State/LSU.

and I completely get that....
hell Im so mad with all the bickering that I want LSU to annihilate OKST but that would mean we're not in it
its a paradox lol

I don't think this is like 2004 at all other than if UA gets left out then like us, they think they could have won the national Championship. It would be the same feeling inside to the fans, but totally different circumstances.

Thats why it has grown into the craze it has there's uncertainty, drama, etc. every week. I kinda think a playoff would take away from the games and some fans passion.

"I didn't come to Alabama to win 10 games a year and be a contender. I came here to win championships. Conference Championships and National Championships. I love it here because that's just not what I want, but what this fan base expects." --Alabama Head Football Coach, Nick Saban

I think there should be a playoff, and make it as long as the NBA playoffs so I won't have to see college football end for a while.

Yes when I say it's nothing like 2004, I mean in the sense that if we don't get in, I don't think we'll feel like we got screwed, as Auburn felt that year. I won't anyway. Simple fact is you guys were undefeated that season so had a legitimate complaint. We aren't. If we don't get in, we have no one to blame but ourselves for not beating LSU when we had the chance. That said, I do feel we are the 2nd best team in the country, but if the system says otherwise and sends Okl.State, then so be it.

What were having here this season to me is a prefect example of why we need a play-off system with clearly defined criteria governing who gets in and who does not. I think the best solution would be the major conference champions along with something like two "at large" teams. Fro example this season we'd have the following teams as auto qualifiers...
LSU
Oklahoma State
Oregon
Clemson
Wisconsin
West Virginia (perhaps leave them out and give their spot to C-USA or Mt West)
Then there would be to "at large" teams. The best was to select these would be by the poll system. This would also ensure the polls that so many love will retain some relevance. This year would see;
Alabama
Georgia (maybe Boise or something)
These 8 teams play a play-off and that way any rematches would be a result of on the field results rather than any voting or computers.

I've said it before, but I'll mention it again. While I'm a believer that a cfb playoff would be pretty interesting, I don't buy that the possibility of a "rematch" should be the reason for it. Because if we had a playoff, there would be potentials for multiple rematches to decide the champion. Having a playoff would not prevent a rematch. I can tell you right now, that if we had a playoff based on the standings currently, we'd still probably end up with Bama/LSU in the BCSNCG this season.

If you allow teams in just for winning their conference, it completely destroys non conference games.
That's what the "at large" slots are for. Teams that don't win their conference but still have stellar seasons. Part of such a season would be some decent non-conference wins like Bama had over Penn State.
