Time to face reality

Just to preface, I want to say a few things.
First of all, I really do believe that this 'Bama team is one of the two best teams in all of college football. There is still a part of me that believes we are even better than LSU, but at this point we can't even try to make that argument. We have to give credit where credit is due.
I do think we are a better team than the Oklahoma States, the Stanfords, etc. We play a more complete, physical style of football. Fans across the country love to critique that 9-6 game vs LSU, but they refuse to recognize that we are actually a top 16 team in the nation in scoring offense. Compare that to Ok State who is very good offensively but has the 107th ranked defense in CFB...
I also think that this year's Bama D is even BETTER than the 2009 defense, and that's what hurts the most is that I feel their legacy will never be written. The guys like Hightower, Upshaw and Barron who led the way for us to set all kinds of national-leading marks, won't fully get the credit they deserve.
As much as I love the Crimson Tide, it's time to face the reality of things.
We haven't got a leg to stand on.
The entire rest of the country, and even the entire SEC, for that matter, is foaming at the mouth for Oklahoma State to get their chance. The only ones who still are saying 'Bama has a chance are 'Bama fans, coaches, and probably biased ESPN media members.
Oklahoma State deserves it. They've technically played a tougher schedule, and despite their horrible defensive numbers they HAVE beaten some good teams throughout the course of the season. Not to mention their NC hopes were riding on this game tonight, and they put together their best game of the year.
I have to say - at this point, if we lucked our way into the NC, it would be kind of a joke. There's nothing, other than the human opinion (even if it IS the RIGHT opinion...) that 'Bama and LSU are the two best teams in the country that goes in our favor. OSU won their conference. They have the same record as us. We already played our game vs LSU. They deserve a chance.
It's time to accept the reality that we are likely, and rightfully, Sugar Bowl bound. 11-1 with an appearance in a BCS bowl game is a tremendous season. Yes, the loss to LSU - specifically, the 4 missed field goals, crucial penalties and very controversial INT call - those things are going to hurt for a long, long time...but we have still built a foundation for future championship opportunities and we aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
To conclude, I still think we are one of the two best teams in the country. I simply think that we don't deserve it over Oklahoma State. Not to mention it wouldn't be fair to LSU to require them to beat us twice. If OSU had lost tonight, I think we would've been the clear-cut frontrunner. But give credit to the Cowboys, they played outstanding football tonight.
I would encourage all my Tide bretheren to bite your tongue at rival fans who are going to give us hell for how this situation worked out. The entire country is rooting against us right now - literally. But that's alright.
Like I said, we aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

One final thing -
If it does happen, I think LSU will absolutely demolish Oklahoma State. And when the country is whining about how the SEC is so much better than everyone else and how it was a boring NC game, maybe then they will realize that there is only one team in CFB that truly could match up with LSU.

I'll remind people this is a Bama forum discussion, keep the trash talk in the 100 other rematch threads.
I can't top all of that, but I'll give my opinion anyway Dan.
I feel like OSU is a very solid team. They took care of business tonight like they should have if they wanted to play for the NC. Taking advantage of Oklahoma's horrible play deserves some credit after all. It's true that they have technically played a much better schedule, but I of course attribute that to the SEC being down more than most years. Realistically a sub .500 team or above on our schedule would match up game for game on theirs. That's how deep and athletic the SEC is and we can't over look that because we're afraid we'll sound biased.
In the end, I'll of course be upset if we don't get in. I don't think OSU has a chance in hell against LSU and I believe we should see a more competitive game. We won't see another 9-6 overtime performance because it was very rare quite frankly. The outcome was the epitome of how we play football in the SEC however, but I just can't see another game where a single touchdown would not be scored. That's just insane to think about honestly, no matter how even these two defense are.
The rematch should happen and IMO will happen. Bama is still the best team outside of LSU and I know a lot of the voters are still thinking this.

Solid posts by both of you, I agree with both, the only reason I believe bama should go over OSU is because they lost to LSU, now, I have no clue who OSU lost to but whomever it was they weren't as good as LSU and it doesnt get much closer than a 3 point game. I don't know that its "fair" for OSU to be left out but....life's not fair and fair isn't always right. Voters and fans should remember that.
PS. I dont plan on giving bammers hell either way. Believe me I hate you guys but its like hating that guy for dating your ex yet still knowing he's a good guy...but you just
ing hate him anyway. Thats how I feel about bama.
Good day.

OSU fans chanting "LSU, LSU, LSU" is like a group of white mice chanting "PYTHON, PYTHON, PYTHON".

I'll preface by saying Alabama is the second best team in the country.
Now when I say second best, I mean LSU would just beat them again. I like LSU on a neutral field, let alone a virtual home game in NOLA. Alabama has done everything you can outside of going undefeated to be given the chance.
But rematches are weak and Oklahoma State won the second best conference in football. It's only right they should play the winner of the best. They'll get throttled just like Georgia did, probably by a similar score. Alabama fans will complain that it should have been them. I'll tell you all to shut up and say "2004".

Well it's not 2004 broham, and the 2nd best conference is debatable. The Pac 12 and Big 10 are much better, or at least 4-5 teams from each would tear Oklahoma State up. I also believe winning a conference definitely gives them an advantage over Alabama, but winning a conference championship game would of sealed that deal. That's why the Big 12 has dropped from the second best in my mind.
But either way I can't be too upset, we didn't take care of business when it mattered. Always simple as that.

I think the OP has it right. The vast majority of football fans across the country hate the SEC anyway. If it was a rematch between Stanford and Oregon, it would already be written in stone. It's not a given, but I'll be surprised if OSU doesn't jump to #2.

Honestly I don't care what happens. I blame Saban for the FG's. He can fill a roster with NFL talent but he can't find a kicker.

no way does Oklahoma State jump Alabama. money talks, and ESPN wants the Tide
The NCAA wants to keep the BCS system. Playing two SEC teams, however fair it may be, is not in their best interest. The anti-BCS sentiment is growing and even Congress is starting to get involved. The NCAA will chill the debate with either a lop-sided LSU win over Okie State, (where Bama becomes the PR victim of irrational anti-BCS sentiment), or if Okie State wins and the NCAA can point to the purity of the BCS system. It's all about money alright, but not of just one game. Okie State will jump Bama if the NCAA can make it happen. All they needed was an excuse to do it and the Okie State/Okie score was it.
