Herbstreit currently has Mathieu #1 on his heisman list.

Melvin Ingram may have something to say about that..

Mathieu could certainly make a case though.

Mathieu is better than Ingram, I know they are 2 different positions. Mathieu just seems to make so many plays in every game.

You should know about Ingram making plays. On the year so far he has 2 INT's, a fumble recovery for a TD,  a fake FG ran about 70 yards for a TD, 26 tackles(7.5 for a loss), and 5.5 sacks.

Mathieu is a freak.  He is literally dangerous on every play, pass or run.  I can't remember if I have ever seen this much talent, particularly in a soph.

He's good, but all the big hype for him started after Saturday....when will they learn going apeshit on Kentucky doesn't qualify you for a Heisman?

Hasn't he pretty much done it against West Virginia, Miss State, Northwestern, and Oregon too?

Hold your horses there, cowboy. We have at least two players on our starting defense you could make an argument for.....................

Having said that, it is nice to see a defensive player gaining some recognition in the Heisman race. It's an uphill climb though...

Look no further than your boy Bridgewater post UK-UF last season to see the validity of my argument and how the media operates.

This^ He will take the ball from your hands if he doesn't intercept it first. He is 5'9" and a buck seventy five of adrenaline. He should be on the list to go to NY...

As far as playmaking ability goes I would say:
1. Mathieu
2. Ingram

Overall not totally sure he's the best defensive player in the SEC, DE belongs to Ingram and LB belongs to Upshaw.  It's a toss up.

Tyrann Mathieu is the best defensive player in the country bar none IMO.  He will make for an unbelievable pro.  His ability to take the ball from the other team is ridiculous.
