You asked for 'the young guns' to way in, but I'll jump in anyway, since I live here in Nashville.
In the article, the funding breakdown is:

$14 million from Tennessee's Race to the Top award.
$20 million in private donations.
$5.8 million from the federal Investing in Innovation program award.

As my former public school teachers encouraged, I've read as much information as I can about this issue.
So far as I've read, there are good and bad things about Charter Schools.
The number one thing that leaped out, is that  teacher unions in the states that have Charter Schools, overwhelmingly oppose them.
Are these people concerned about students excelling or their own needs?
With the funding break down mentioned above, I'll give it my support.
Plan to hike the entire AT in 2015 if I'm still alive.  If not, I'm sure my wife won't let me go...

I'd venture to say we're wasting more money on Wellness and Driver's Ed.

Remind me not to drink from the water fountain; there is too much political BS muddying up the water.

No agenda..just my thoughts from an old schooler...wanted to see what you young guns think about your money being poured into schools for minorities mostly...are they pulling the wool over your eyes:)

It is what it is...take anyway you want...I think Charter Schools are Private Schools for Minorities run by the government...what you think about that?

I think you're right.
For the most part.

We actually have charter schools in south Florida where the white kids are sent to mostly black/hispanic schools to help bring the averages up.

All I know is that I regret not going to private school like my parents wanted me to.
