Normally I would post this in the recruiting forum, however he is a hard Gamecock lock and he isn't going anywhere but USC.

This guy is going to be special IMO and will see snaps next year behind Latti.

Quote

In Lake City's second round play-off game, Shon carried the ball 35 times for 291 yards and 5TDs (4, 11, 12, 20, 58). Lake City 62 - Hanahan 41.

Thats some old info there from a game in the playoffs.

He also has other impressive stats for the state of South Carolina

Quote

For his career, Shon totaled 7193 yards rushing and 98TDs in 47 games. Also had 1 receiving TD, 1 return TD and passed for 1 TD. The 100 TDs scored ranks third all time in South Carolina history behind Marcus Lattimore (104) and Demetrius Summers (127) and believe me when I say he had MUCH less help than either Lattimore or Summers.

He also walks away with an award this year

Quote

Thursday night in Myrtle Beach, Shon was named winner of the 2010 Zoneman award voted on by the Pee Dee and Grand Strand area high school coaches. The other four finalist were:

Mitch Campbell - QB - Myrtle Beach
Kaleb Griffin - QB - South Florence
Jabo Lee - RB - Dillon
Lateek Townsend - LB - Marlboro County

He was also praised as the best RB in Day 1 of the Shrine Bowl recently.

Other coaches are now seeing what they've missed out on.

Can't wait to have him in Garnet and Black

Not to mention he picked USC over Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, FSU, and Tennessee. So other big time schools saw some potential there too

This guy is the real deal from what I have heard. Cannot believe he is only a 3 star.

To have the offers he has and only be ranked a 3 star, you know sumpn is up.

I'm sure he's a really good solid back, but um...how did he choose USC over us? Outside of that being pure blasphamy, I don't think he had a solid offer. May the lord have mercy on you if Saban catches wind of this.

Situation, call em'.

As you say he may not have had a solid offer from Bama.  I really have no idea.  But he's even more of an elite baseball prospect so that was clearly an advantage for us over any other teams who did give a committable offer.

The brief research I did after he committed seemed to indicate he's ranked outside the top 100 prospects for this years MLB draft w/ one site projecting him as a 6th rounder.   That's probably low enough that we don't have to worry about a team throwing piles of money at him.   Let's just hope one team doesn't fall in love with him and give out a blank check.

Is this the same thing you'll say when Clowney commits to the Gamecocks?:D

Alabama was more interested in him than Auburn. Both gave him scholarship offers, but neither one would have let him play football and baseball.

I've been doing a lot of reading on Shon Carson also. I've heard great things. I've even heard he would have started over Lattimore had he attended Byrnes instead of Lake City.

All I know is, it'll be great to have a 1-2 punch next year, and also have a change of pace player with just as much ability as the starter if the starter gets shut down or hurt.

Next year is shaping up to be better than this year. 9-3 SEC East Champs was fantastic. But I'm thinking we do even better than that next year with the new explosive freshmans coming in. Seems like every year we get more freshman that make an impact immediately.

yup, shon and shamier are already a lock. So that's another stud running back and another very physical wr added to our already explosive offense. We could have the highest powered offense in the country next year.

If we can just get Clowney, our defense will be much improved. The Dline was already one of the best. But it'll be even better with Clowney. That would take some more pressure off the secondary also.

I'm not 100% convinced that Carson will be on campus next year.  I still think there's a decent chance he gets drafted by MLB and goes that route.  If he doesn't, I'll be ecstatic.

He struck out 15.  Not nearly close to NCAA quality prep players, but still...15 k's is putting it over the plate, all the same.
