A raucous high school homecoming bash at a posh south Florida mansion last weekend ended with the homeowners' arrests after police found hundreds of minors drinking inside and outside the 17,000-square-foot home.
Police responded to the $10 million waterfront home of Shlomo and Jeannie Rasabi early Sunday after receiving noise complaints.
According to a police incident report posted on The Smoking Gun website, officers found "approximately 100 minors drinking outside the residence."
"Five juveniles were observed vomiting outside of the residence and loud music was coming from inside," the incident report states, adding that four female juveniles had passed out on the front lawn.
"There were approximately 500 minors inside the residence, all who appeared to be under the age of 21 with the majority of them holding alcoholic beverages in their hands," the report continued.
Shlomo and Jeannie Rasabi, whose teenage sons were hosting the homecoming party for fellow students at the private American Heritage School, were found in an upstairs bedroom.
Asked by police why he allowed the minors into his home with alcohol, Shlomo Rasabi told officers, "I didn't even know all these kids were here ... I was in my room the whole time," according to the incident report.
His wife responded, "I planned this party and allowed some of these kids from my sons' school to come over for a homecoming party. I was in my room the whole time because my son wanted me to stay there for the evening so he could have the party."
The Rasabis' attorney, Adam Harmelin, said the couple hired three people to work as security/chaperones for about 150 teens invited to the party. They had wristbands made to be sure only those invited came in, he said. But when word of the party got out, other teens, wearing fake wrist bands, crashed the party, he told the Palm Beach Post.
"My clients took the reasonable steps necessary to not have alcohol on their property," Harmelin said.
Police arrested the couple for having an "Open House Party."

That's like parents rationalizing letting their kids drink at home because "They're gonna do it anyway, might as well let them do it here". Completely twisted logic.

I kind of doubt that all 500 kids were planning on staying at the residence.

Thinking as a parent, that sends the wrong message (IMO). Like Boots said, its not realistic to think that all 500 kids will stay, and the fact that the parents were 'hosting' the party, they are now liable for anyone that leaves intoxicated.

in most states, it is completely legal for parents to give their children alcohol, so long as it is in their home and nowhere else. they cannot give alcohol to someone else's kids in their home, though.

Reminds me of the infamous March 1987. I was 14, my brother was 16. Our mom was in the hospital, our housekeeper was on leave... we had a party that lasted a month. It was like something out of a movie. Even had the standard bikers show up one night.
And now a moment of silence for those who didn't make it.... you are gone but not forgotten. You belong to the Ages.

Makes you wonder how these two moron parents ever had the brains to accumulate the kind of wealth it takes to own a 10 million dollar home. Schlomos got to be a kingpin in the Jewish Mafia or something.

Actually that law varies from state to state and in this story FL is a state that does not allow it.
Florida
- No one under the age of 21 is allowed to consume or posses alcohol. But interestingly you can taste (can't consume) an alcoholic beverage if it is required of a class in a postsecondary educational institution (college) but only if you're at least 18 years of age. It's illegal to drive a motor vehicle with a BAC of .02 or higher if under the age of 21. For anyone 21 years of age or older may not drive if they have a BAC of .08 or higher.
Iowa, Georgia, Colorado and several others.
- No one under the age of 21 is allowed to consume or posses alcohol, unless at a private home when the parent or guardian gives it to his/her child or ward and the said parent or guardian is present (supervising). Also anyone under the age of 21 can not drive any motor vehicle with a BAC of .02 or higher. For anyone 21 years of age or older may not drive if they have a BAC of .10 or higher.

Haha, we used to have parties like that in high school. I guess they figured we would do it anyway. Things usually got out of hand somehow though.
