Kiffin used UT as nothing more than a stepping stone to another school. As much as I hate UT, they are not a stepping stone. They are a conference and national powerhouse. Let me bring it down to earth for you Laney. I'll put it in layman's terms so you can understand.
12-1 and a Pac 10 Championship will get you the Rose Bowl
12-1 and an SEC Championship will get you the BCS National Championship Game
You and USC deserve one another.

Very true, Im still in disbelief.
What I don't understand is what the hell has he proved as a head coach? Coaching the USC offense, hooray! Two heisman winners in a crappy conference isn't that amazing.
a 5-15 raiders record and 7-5 at UT, that sucks.

One of the most successful programs in NCAA history, the Arkansas men's track and field teams. The program has won 42 national titles in Cross Country and Track & Field.

LOL...like Lane was ever gonna go 12-1 in the SEC
I wouldn't take it as disrespect for UT as a traditional school...the lazy bastard just decided coaching with what Carroll already built would take longer to show he's a failure than never building Tennessee to what it could've been.

I agree Rob. It gets me confused to the point where I sit here and wonder if he really did not expect the SEC to challenge him as much as it did. He looked at the UT talent, thought it comparable to USC, and thought: "wow...easy."
When every SEC team took him down to the wire, he got scared. I honestly believe that a great part of his decision was based on fear of competition. At USC he can have an EASY season, win a lot, and get all the praise in the world for it.

There is no doubt he's walking into a situation where it will be much easier to win at USC. The reality though is that USC is not a better job than UT. In terms of talent right now it is the sexier job but in terms of what can be accomplished there it is at best a lateral move. At worst it is a step backwards. Again this is just in terms of what could be accomplished there.

Kifffin saw the writing on the wall... the SEC is not the PAC 10. He knew where he could look good and he knew it wouldn't be here. UT is lucky he left. I know they were extremely vexed and shocked, but they can and will do much better.

thats what i said yesterday. im not sure why any UT fans would be upset. they are going to get a better coach, who will earn more respect and teach the kids something about football and character. and the SEC as whole is better now that hes gone.
and usc isnt going to do any better than they did this year. theyll just get another emerald bowl appearance this coming season.

When the students were rioting, I kept wondering Why? Be glad he is gone, you are a big time, attractive program for a lot of coaches much better than that douche bag. Celebrate!!

That is if they don't get a bowl ban as part of their impending punishment when the NCAA meets in February. Pete Carroll went from trying everything in his power to get GM power/personnel decision power in Seattle to "I actually don't need all that - how soon can I start?" not long after the NCAA concluded its investigation that started back in April 2006. The NCAA informed southern cal in writing of its findings that will be used to decide in February what the punishment will be....Petey got out, Laney is goin' in.
Karma gave Kiffin that job and I think he's going to reap what he sowed back in the Bush/Leinart/Jarrett/Lendale days. He was a part of all that the NCAA has been investigating these past 4 years or so.....I think it's ironic as hell that he's going to be there when the curtain Carroll had up falls.
Let me get this straight. We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and will be fined for if we don't, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts itself from it, signed by a president who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and financed by a country that's broke.
What could possibly go wrong?

I'm not upset because he left, I'm upset because we're left with a spineless AD who won't have the stones to get a Harbaugh, Patterson, or Muschamp. He's settling right now, and he's only got a few more guys before the BOT will boot him and give us Fulmer as an AD, and Cutcliffe as a new HC.
I don't Cutclife would be that bad for you guys if he can find a good DC to run the defense. He knows offense and he can stabilize things. Plus he is old so he won't be there that long.

He was certainly an embarrassment to the entire SEC.

Life would be so much easier if I could fail my way into progressively more and more "prestigious*" jobs.
*I don't believe USC is any more prestigious that UT, but its viewed that way by some... :thumbsdow
