I think this is what Rob was referring to...

While you're looking heres what BOL said about it:
"True freshman A.J. McCarron has vaulted up the depth chart, but it's unclear whether coach Nick Saban would use him in an emergency and take away his redshirt, or redshirt freshman Star Jackson."
I couldn't link it earlier because I was using my phone to post at work.
AJ McCarron is indeed Alabama's backup quarterback | The Bama Beat - al.com
And directly from the article itself in case you don't want to bother clicking:
How do I know that?
Nick Saban just said so.
"AJ McCarron has really sort of been our backup quarterback since the bye week," Saban said at today's press conference in Newport Beach. "It's been our plan that if we had to play him that we'll play the guy that gives us the best opportunity to win the game, and that's what we would do. Star Jackson is also an option for us, but we would make the decision on who would be the guy in the game that would give us the best opportunity to win.
"And if the person who has sort of been the backup quarterback needs to do that because he's performed the best, practiced the best and put himself in that position, I'm pretty certain that that's the direction that we would go

Auburn rushing yards: 296. Gus Malzahn has proven that he's already a better coach than Nick Saban and it's only his first year.
One day AJ McCarron might be as good of a QB as Neil Caudle.

No one said it was the right move...just that McCarron would indeed be the #2 guy. As I've said multiple times on the subject, we're no better off with either of them going in. If G-Mac goes down for any amount of time tomorrow, we are royally screwed.
